Impressions from the news and time playing it. Mentions in the video near the end that Lionhead are releasing something else this year as well.

And considering Fable III and Fable the Journey were its predecessors that's saying something. ;)

I have mixed feelings about this.
This news is pretty late in the day which makes it probable that it was a recent decision - which likely means there was a change of plans and things were not going well. I got the feeling that they were not shouting about it as much as they could have and I think it wasn't mentioned at one of last year's E3 or Gamescom? February EDGE says they are effectively trying to make a MOBA game and the public were expecting Fable IV. And when the game was revealed they should have perhaps said, "a different kind of game set in the world of Fable." Maybe if it was sold full price it would have failed to have legs and multiplayer would have died out.

On the other hand it does look like a full game that has had some big investment in it. Being free then it will have the whole XBO community potentially playing it (although I rarely see anybody playing DC Superheroes on PS3/PS4). As long as the push to buy gold is not full-on like locking you out before you can play again, then free is always good and it works as part of a long game for the Xbox platform.

Those screenshots look lovely and I'm hoping this could mean the reveal of Fable IV...

But you can buy heroes, although the patient may not have to. Eckelberry estimates it'll take around a fortnight to gain enough silver through gameplay to buy a hero, which fits in with the plan of rotating the heroes that are freely available every couple of weeks.

Killer Instinct is £4 a character. I'd say there's a 50/50 chance you will also be able to buy a £35 full season like Killer Instinct.

This is how this series has gone so far.

Fable - Awesome
Fable II - Okay, I guess.
Fable III - Uh... what are you doing?
Fable the Journey - Total pish.

I'm starting to see a pattern...

The Fable series seems to be drifting further and further away from what it 'should' be. I've not seen any positive responses to this announcement - surely Lionhead realise that nobody wants this.

Anyway, I thought Fable II was the best out of the lot.

Quotes from the GAF thread -

Im in the beta and i have to say, enjoying it. And i never liked Fable.

I second this, didn't think I was gonna like it but I am so far. Won't say anything else....

Same as the others. Didn't expect to think much of t. And its been great

Beta has been fantastic.

I get that it's not what a lot of people were looking for in a new Fable, but I strongly encourage everyone to try it out when it launches (or hits open beta, at least); if you go in with an open mind there's a lot to love.

Count me as another person who was surprisingly impressed by the beta.

The sound and graphics are off the charts

I've loved the classic Fables and I've loved the beta thus far. I thought that the asymmetrical nature of the gameplay would mean it would be easy to get obliterated with a bad team or stomp an inexperienced villain, but it's actually much more forgiving and varied than I expected—even playing the same map over and over showed how much variety was built into the concept.

I assume it'll be out for everyone Nov or Dec as part of the New Xbox One Experience launch.

Fable Legends open beta now officially delayed to 2016

"We think we can make it even better."

Fable Legends developer Lionhead Studios has finally given an update on its MIA free-to-play title, which was previously slated for launch before Christmas.

Legends offers asymmetrical multiplayer for up to five players.

The Xbox One and Windows 10 game will now launch in open beta at some point during spring 2016.

But Fable fans will now have to wait just a little longer, as creative director David Eckelberry explained today in a YouTube update:

"Right now, Fable Legends is coming together well and it's a lot of fun, but we think we can make it even better," Eckelberry said. "That means adding some additional features and elements of polish that we feel can make a real difference.

"It also means we're spending more time listening to our closed beta players to make sure their voices are heard.

"To be honest with you, we rather underestimated how big of a game Fable Legends is becoming. We've really created two games at once - a multiplayer RPG on one side and a kind of RTS on the other. One top of that, we've built a new world and whole new story to tell. This is the most ambitious game we've ever done at Lionhead and it's taking more time than we thought."

Sadly Fable Legends is dead so is Lionhead Studios.

Read more and comment in the dedicated thread here: Lionhead Studios to close. Fable Legends cancelled.
