An old school friend was killed in a motorcycle accident yesterday. Amongst all the tributes and messages, one girl wrote:

Bit of both. It certainly means we are given a frequently-unfiltered insight into people's thoughts, which is scary.

Equally, I feel like stupidity, banality and conceit are lauded, rather than condemned, which encourages people to carry on.

At a concert last night, open air, amazing weather, great atmosphere, so what do the two bints in front spend most of it doing? Taking selfies and posting them on Facebook, then endlessly checking to see who's commented

What gets me is all these images encouraging people to 'ignore the haters' or promoting the fact that 'only God can judge me'.

Being judged by other people is a particularly essential aspect of human life in general. You start off as an ignorant, self-centred idiot and by receiving feedback from your parents, peers, teachers etc you gradually form a rounded personality, learn to empathise and so on.

Basically, if a lot of people are 'hating' on you and most of the world thinks you are a dick, it's probably because you are a dick. I feel it's not a coincidence that people who post these images also often display egocentric traits in their other twatty status updates.
