That a Facebook film is in production is not something that I though I'd ever hear. Lets face it: there are already far too many films in existence that shouldn't have been made; if you agree with Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse films Reindeer Games and the newer of the Star Wars trilogies number pretty high among them and they're just the tip of the iceburg - if you ask me anything by Uwe Boll is way up there too. Nonetheless, according to writer Aaron Sorkin, a Facebook film is exactly what he has been commissioned to compile a script foor.

Sorkin, writer among other things of the first four series of The West Wing and films like A Few Good Men and Charlie Wilson's War (which I, incidentally, rather liked), says that he "just agreed to write a movie for Sony and producer Scott Rudin about how Facebook was invented".

On, of all things, a Facebook page created about the project he continues: "I figured a good first step in my preparation would be finding out what Facebook is, so I've started this page. (Actually it was started by my researcher, Ian Reichbach, because my grandmother has more Internet savvy than I do and she's been dead for 33 years."

You might imagine it's a small-time studio that has commissioned Sorkin to make this film, but you'd be wrong. Sony Pictures is apparently behind the project which, we're told, will focus on Mark Zuckerberg's time at Harvard, his creation (alleged stealing?) of Facebook, its rise to fame and his to fortune.

I won't comment on exactly how I think the film will turn out. Let's just say I don't see it being the next Dark Knight. No discredit to Aaron Sorkin, but the subject matter is of extremely debatable filmic potential.

So it's a bit like a spiritual sequel to Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail. Can't wait.

:? ... :fp: I think they should make a GR movie. Rogue Mods scenario, Goat and Nood as the bad guys. Then the downfall of the place and our move to GRcade. Epicness.

Nobody would see it. Surely?

I just hate the way he writes dialogue, The West Wing was interesting enough for it to not really matter but Studio 60 was pure gooseberry fool.

The only really good thing I've liked of his is A Few Good Men.

I didn't like Studio 60, either. And The Wire does politics a million times better than The West Wing ever did, but I still loved it. Possibly because you-know-who was in it...........then again possibly not.

It's not an outrageous suggestion. A movie documenting the phenemonal rise of social networking sites could, using Facebook as a reference point, be a fairly interesting piece of social commentary about how the internet carries on changing the way we live.

You can't honestly be expecting that level of depth from this. :o

Why not? It's not like Uwe Boll is at the helm is it? It's a man who has carved a career out of sharp dialogue and sharper commentary.

It's the story of the 3 guys that created the site. It's not actually about Facebook.

It would be a drama about a man setting up a website and watching it become popular. It's basically all there in the first post.

Sounds thrilling. GR outing, if you ask me.
