Good review. Gonna be getting this.

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

Five minutes in and it's already terrifying

Anyone who disagrees with the forced 2.35:1 aspect ratio - it gives it such a cool cinematic look. I think to try and force them off would be a disservice to what they're trying to create. It looks incredible.

I should get this from boomerang tomorrow, literally know nothing about it. Exciting.

I'm struggling to get into games after destiny. Pumped hours into it, and with driveclub being broken I've not really been into a game for a few weeks.

My copy should be arriving tomorrow for PC.

Looking forward to a night of scares. :datass:

Yep, it's quite deliberate. It's even more apparent in later levels why they've done it.

Been watching a few folk streaming this and really like the look of what I've seen so far. Think I'll definitely be getting this at some point.

I'm getting this today, but had a tough choice whether to trade in Mordor or Alien.....Alien won, I don't know why as Mordor is much more fun to play! I'm a sucker for horror games so I guess that swung the choice!

Looking forward to playing this though....

Gamecentral's verdict is in:

In Short: Rather than the future of survival horror this is merely a retread of its defining moments, and even then it rarely manages to equal what has gone before – let alone exceed it.

Pros: The combat and stealth work well, especially when combined with the more open world levels. Plenty of tension and some inventive enemies and boss encounters.

Cons: Very few new ideas and most of the old ones worked better in their original form. Low frame rate, lots of bugs, and hugely unhelpful camera. Awful storytelling and not that scary.

Score: 6/10

Formats: PlayStation 4 (reviewed), Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and PC
Price: £49.99
Publisher: Bethesda
Developer: Tango Gameworks
Release Date: 14th October 2014
Age Rating: 18

If I stick with them then there had better be some cool fourth wall breaking moment that makes them worthwhile. If they are there purely to be cinematic then they are a waste of space.

I played the firs chapter this morning. Graphics didn't blow me away and the frame rate makes the movement annoying. Shocking lack of options on PC. If you aren't at recommended specs I'd hate to think how it would run.

I'll have to stick Anung's vid on later to see his impressions :)

I'll probably pick this up after I've finished Alien Isolation which is consuming a lot of my time at the moment.

You can change the limiter to 60FPS, although there are apparently a few "quirks" to deal with if you do. To the dev's credit, they are apparently working to fix these. Here are all the console commands if you're interested.

To access the debug console, do the following:
In Steam, right click on The Evil Within and select “properties” then under the General tab, hit “set launch options.”
Put this in to unlock the console: +com_allowconsole 1
Once the game has launched, hit the Insert key to bring down the developer console.

These are the commands you can use and some notes about each:

R_swapinterval <NUMBER>
Sets the FPS lock. Note that the numbers below are negative.
-2: This is the default, set to 30 FPS. This is the officially supported frame rate
-1: This sets the FPS limit to 60. Fully playable, although there may be quirks (we’re going to fix these).
0: This fully unlocks the FPS. We do not recommend playing above 60. We will not fix any issues above 60.

God
God mode. You are effectively invincible, and certain enemy kill moves will not be used against you (Laura, for example, will not jump on you)

Noclip
Allows you to walk through walls

G_infiniteammo
Unlimited ammo (provided you have at least 1 bullet when you enable this)

G_stoptime
1 Stops time. Note there is a bug right now where using this command causes a UI element to appear on screen. We’re looking to fix that in the near future.
Re enable time with g_stoptime 0

Toggledebugcamera
Separates the camera from Sebastian so you can freely move around the

R_forceaspectratio <NUMBER>
Sets the aspect ratio. Default is 2.5, which is our official aspect ratio.
0 is full screen, but not ideal. 1.8 or 2 is probably most comfortable for those who don’t want bars.

Com_showFPS
Turns on id’s native FPS counter

Startslowmotion2
Slows down time

Stopslowmotion
Disables slow motion

No. I do like David Jenkins, but I can't agree with that.

Which population are you on about?

Anyways, hopefully the servers wont be too slow to let fast/faster connections download it better.

My work pays for my Fibre Optic BB. :datass:
