Yeah same thing put me off. They've lost a sale from me at least.

I've preordered the collectors edition, mainly for the bubble head, if the Pip boy is gooseberry fool I'll prob be able to get my money back splitting it all up or put it on the shelf

Fallout3 was HD in the first place.

Well they're coming to PS4 too, so I imagine they'll be approved by Bethesda as opposed to approved by MS/Sony

I was thinking the same Brer as in the better mods are performance related so I can't see them getting the green light, still, it IS a nice addiition. I was on the fence about this game but with free mods AND digital 360 copy of Fallout 3 for X1 its becoming tempting.

Hmm trying to decide whether to pick this up on Xbox One or PS4....I'll definitely be getting it for PC at a later date but want a console version for launch.

Tempted by Xbox One version with the addition of the Fallout 3 copy but not sure whether it'll perform better on the PS4.

Did they mention what platforms the companion app for the Pitboy functionality would be coming out on? I guessing iOS and Android are a given but Windows is always uncertain.

When it comes to mods it's all down to the implementation. If Bethesda want to curate them, then they'll make sure only approved mods make it through.

However, if they go the same way that Epic did with UT3, then all the mod maker needs to do is make a console version available. It was a simple case of inserting a USB drive with the files on it and installing them from there via the mod menu in-game. Very easy to do and there were no controls or limits in place.

Obviously with the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games there are a lot of mods that increase the performance requirement, but players will just learn what does and doesn't work.

I don't think they would allow console players that much freedom. It's kind of risk if people end up breaking or corrupting their games. With PC you have a platform were there is a tradition of being understanding of technical issues and risks and taking measures to resolve things; this is not really the same within the wider gaming community and people are more likely to complain to Bethesda about issues. I think there will probably be approved mods that can be downloaded from the store. MS won't want the hassle either.

A bit of an aside this, but was is the PS3 version of Fallout: New Vegas like?

I really want to get around to playing it before Fallout 4 comes out, and I have had it downloaded on my 360 for a while.

The problem is, I don't have my 360 here, though I have a Japanese PS3. Is it still worth playing or should I wait until I get back to my Xbox?

I played and loved the ps3 version. But I checked YouTube for a guide on how to do something once, and was shocked by how much cleaner the 360 version looked.

It's still amazing, so I'd just get the ps3 version if I was you.

Weird, as I read that the game supposedly looks better on the PS3? As it's on a Blu Ray disc and has more texture data or something. But it is just performance that is crumby. What was that like?

And is the DLC must cop? It's £5 for the standard version and £14 for the ultimate edition.

I played the 360 version and it was excellent. The graphics were sharp and in my playthrough the game went wrong twice; not bad for circa 150-hours of gametime. Those two occasions were due to the game save not working; so I then saved pretty regularly and all was fine.

The PS3 version seems to have suffered from poorly-optimised code that caused some freezes and other bugs at release; but the weird thing is that not all players seem to have been affected. Looking at Bethesda's PS3 forum for the game, it seems that the problems cropped up more as the game progressed. I'm not aware of any increased texture quality in the PS3 version; looking at screenshots and vids, I think the 360 version has the edge. To back-up Poser's view, I'd still definitely try the PS3 version out. It's such an engrossing game, even seven years after release.

Viewpoints vary on the DLC; personally I felt that they offered variety and brough some different aspects to the gameworld - I loved 'em.

I loved it on PS3 but it was a mess. I probably had 30 odd hard freezes from pretty early in the game. I've got all the DLC but i stopped playing it as I would have a guaranteed freeze at least once a session.

Bethesda use PC as the lead platform and since the PS3 had weird architecture getting stuff the run on it was a headache and is one of the reasons backwards compatibility is not realistic for the PS4. The 360 was much closer to standardised PC hardware hence why Fallout 3 and New Vegas were always going to run better on that console. Fortunately, the PS4 has been designed to be much easier to port to and develop for and is fairly standardised so Fallout 4 should not have the same problems. Of course, there will still be problems (it's still a Bethesda game) but not the same extent as last time.*

*Actually, Skyrim was noticeably far better than their previous games in terms of quality at launch. Hopefully they apply the same testing policy to Fallout 4.

The other thing is, should I even play NV now, or will I just suffer from burnout so close to the release of F4?

I wasn't going to pick it up at launch, but I know that my resolve won't last once I can actually get my hands on it.

It's one of the best games of the last generation so I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice to miss it.
