Alright people, so I've finally been able to put in some time to playing Fallout 4 and am approaching/am level 30. Now the whole game has been pretty pedestrian until I got to the part where I met with the Railroad and then built the teleportation machine and entered The Institution and met Father - which I thought was amazing! The background music changes in anticipation and there is a real feeling of urgency. Great stuff!

Anyway, the story is branching off with you effectively having to align yourself with a group and I haven't gone much further. It looks like I will either help the Railroad or the Institute.Without giving away any story spoilers which path is most rewarding story wise, which gives the best ending?

Well consider that the Institute are evil murderers replacing people across the wasteland while the Railroad are literal slave liberators and y'know

Choose Minutemen

I have played the heck out of fallout 4 , I got it near release and played it almost none stop till I had finished the main story but a few months ago I grabbed all the DLC and have been working my way through that, I can't get enough fallout.

I played Fallout 3 to death but just lost interest in 4, something just didn't click and I soon found myself playing other games. A shame really, maybe one day when I've got 100 hours spare I'll give it another go.

Thanks for the advice everyone I think I'm going to follow through with my support for the Railroad and maybe later use an early save to see what happens if I help the other side.

No spoilers please but... Father said they are doing good and trying to help the world! Also I'm not sure there is any proof that synths are sentient. I've spent a bit of time travelling with Nick Valentine but he keeps repeating the same old lines!

I think I know what you mean. This game seemed a bit pedestrian and non-immersive for me for the most part. It wasn't until the Institute investigation that it got me interested. What I loved about Fallout 3 was it seemed relatively 'real' in the sense of a world destroyed by human folly and the lack of hope, very grim. The political buildings of Washington and the Paradise Lost books added to the theme. There was no hi-tech vehicles witnessed until the end which made it seem less sci-fi and more gritty reality. Fallout 4 feels like a series of disparate missions. But it's very easy to drop into now and I love the effects when shooting people's heads off! I once shot a wild dog and my bullet literally ripped it into two halves that fell over!

Out of nowhere I really fancied giving this another go. I was hundreds of hours in, yet lost interest with seemingly a load of quests I've not done. Im level 49, I've built the teleporter but ive still not been to the institute..

Anyway, it's the first time I've been on it in what must be years... and I'm loving it :toot: Been knocking around the east side of the map in the really dense part of the city. It's so well modelled, got a really packed feel to it.

There's a ps4 PRO patch too and it looks markedly better than I remember it doing before, very smooth edges and no jaggies.

Fallout

That was the point where it pushed things too far for me and I lost interest. I was still on board after I realised it was essentially an open world action game with a dialogue tree, I was still on board after realising there wasn't a single interesting plot or NPC in the game, but the Institute broke it for me. It wasn't Fallout any more.

Glad you're enjoying it though.

Fallout

I'm enjoying the wandering about, it's always been my favourite thing with these games.

The enemy A.I is absolutely appalling though, dreadful pathfinding and combat. The improvements that could come from naughty dog level enemies would be something else.

In anticipation of the arrival of Fallout 76, I've decided to start a fresh game of Fallout 4. I've never got more than a few hours into it before... which is crazy considering how much I enjoyed Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

So, the opening is complete and I then met Garvey of the Minute Men. It took me ages to defeat the Deathclaw as I somehow ran out of bullets and ended up lumbering around in the armoured suit, trying to avoid it's powerful swipes whilst one of Garvey's team took pot shots at it :fp:  .

I"m playing on "Very Easy" as the mechanics of the game, alongside establishing where to go, form more than enough challenge for me :) .
