I don't know who normally sets this up so I've gone ahead and started it.
http://en.euro2012fantasy.uefa.com/On the 8th of June the European Championships start and this is your chance to manage your own squad to victory. If you have never played a fantasy football game before this is the perfect starting point as it is a much shorter format than the premier league one.
I've set up a classic GRcade league as well as a head-to-head one. The classic league is based on your total points whereas the head-to-head league pits you against another player with the highest scoring player taking the points. Once logged in, go to the "leagues" tab at the top and select join league and input the codes below:
Classic - 34744-20857
Head-to-Head - 34744-20866
Full rules can be found at the link below but I've also typed up a little summary of the main points for people who haven't played before. Even those who have played before, I would recommend reading up on the manager substitutions as this is new to me (I didn't play the UEFA fantasy football last Euro tournament though).
http://en.euro2012fantasy.uefa.com/rules/The SquadFor people new to the game you have 100 million Euros to spend on a squad of 15 players. There must be 2 goalkeepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders and 3 attackers. You can also only select a maximum of 3 players from each country. From this squad you choose your first 11 and 4 substitutes. It is a delicate balancing act as you can blow the budget on big stars like Robin Van Persie but you will have to compromise elsewhere.
Match DaysA "match day" isn't a day due to the timeframe of the tournament but instead is the time where all games in the same round get played. For example the 8th-11th of June is match day 1 and it contains all of the first group games. You submit your team before this deadline and any transfers made after the deadline won't take effect until the next match day.
ScoringPlayers score points for appearances, clean sheets, assists, goals and lose them for conceding goals, cards and own goals. If one of your starting 11 doesn't play and you don’t make a manager substitution, the next eligible player gets substituted on and they score points for you instead - however read below about manager substitutions.
At the end of the match day 1, 2 or 3 bonus points are also awarded to the players who made the biggest impact. Turns out there isn't any bonus points this time round.
Each match day you also pick a captain and vice captain. The captain will score double points for that game. Should your captain not play, your vice captain will score double points instead.
Edit: The scoring is slightly different to the normal game with assists being defined slightly differently and points for "recovered balls" - have a quick look under the Rules tab.
TransfersThroughout the tournament you can bring in new legs or get rid of dead wood by transferring players so long as you can afford to. The prices for your players actively change depending on the amount of transfers in or out - putting further strain on your budget. Can you get ahead of the curve and bring in someone before their price skyrockets? You can make additional transfers beyond the free ones, but each one will set you back 4 points.
The amount of free transfers for each round:
Matchday 1 - 08 June 17:45 CET - Unlimited
Matchday 2 - 12 June 17:45 CET - 1
Matchday 3 - 16 June 20:30 CET - 1
Quarter-finals - 21 June 20:30 CET - Unlimited
Semi-finals - 27 June 20:30 CET - 8
Final - 01 July 20:30 CET - 4
It is also worth noting that when you sell a player you don’t necessarily get the price they are currently worth. If the player’s value has gone up you will only get the price you paid for them plus half the difference so bear this in mind.
Manager SubstitutionsThere is a new feature (I think) which has been added for this game - manager substitutions. This gives you a little more control over your squad as you are able to actively substitute players out from your team who haven't performed well - unless they've been sent off. You can also switch your captain if they have already played and you don't think they've done well. The main rule for this is that you can only select players who have yet to play in that match day, so there is a risk they will do worse. If you make manager substitutions the automatic ones will not occur.
Those are the main points. Like I said, have a proper read through the rules for the stuff I missed, I’m just giving you a taste.
Go and pick your squads and inevitably change them several times before the first game!
