Not really. The gameplay mechanics are identical and the gameplay feels very similar. It's still a very good game, it's just too similar too soon, probably.

Wrongness. Yes its not far removed from Far Cry 3, but it basically improves on that game in every way possible.

Really? The world is clearly not as interesting at the first island in Far Cry 3 and there are too many vertical barriers which stifle progress - and that's a huge factor, for me.

Also, I know some people hated them but I liked the inclusion of the friends in FC3. It allowed for a nice change of pace and focus, at times.

I'm of the opposite opinion. Thought Far Cry 3's world was boring but I love exploring Kyrat. The vertical environments and exploration has been a huge part of my enjoyment.

Hmm, I found the first island in FC3 was so varied and each area was distinctive and easily recognisable. The map in FC4 kinda all looks the same, to me.

I have the game now, and I think I agree with jamcc. I think the first island in FC3 is more fun than Kyrat (though I only just got to the north yesterday, so I haven't explored that fully yet).

There are lots of very small improvements to the rest of the gameplay, though, and I like that. Especially that the repair tool can actually be used now that it doesn't take up weapon space. Not sure I like how the stronger type of enemies (not the heavies, but the new regular guys in the north) can take more than one hit of the bow.

Been playing a fair bit of this over the past few days and loving it. Anyone still playing up for some co-op on PS4?

That's amazing.

That aside, why does every freaking character in this game have a 2 minute monologue the second you talk to them? The writers must love Tarrantino movies. I zone out every time a cutscene starts.

So do I, the characterisation in this game is appalling. FAO Ubisoft, don't attempt to write comedy if you're not funny. You don't see vets trying to be firemen.

It's some of the worst writing I've ever seen in a game. Because I'm not sure what it's trying to be. Is it supposed to be funny? Everything is a cliche, but is it satire? I'm honestly never sure. Those two drugged up hippy travellers...it would be a send up of Western travellers going to third world countries but even that misses because they couldn't make their dialogue make sense.

Maybe what would help is playing a character who actually has a personality and doesn't do whatever someone he meets tells him to do. Because that's exactly what you spend the whole game doing.

The best bits in this (and there are some great sections) is when you can ignore the story and characters and just let the mechanics shine through. Some stealth sections are fantastic.

What the strawberry float is KBM?

I'm quite near the end now. It's a good game but some missions just feel like a chore and go on far too long - some just resort to throwing waves of enemies at you which can get tiring.

It's a shame that you can simply snipe most outposts and still clear them undetected because trying to stealthily take out all the guards is probably the most fun and rewarding part of the game. The stupid AI should ring the alarm when they see that one of the guards has been sniped as you obviously would do.

Trying to power through the campaign missions to get them out of the way, and like jamcc says, some are pretty disappointing. Got about half of them done but an absolute shitload more to discover. The size of Kyrat is ridiculous.

Regarding your last sentence there I'm going to backtrack on my comments about the game world being a disappointment compared to FC3...... Basically I'd put the four islands as follows:

FC3 1st island >> FC4 1st & 2nd islands >> FC3 2nd island

Fair?

I think Kyrat walks all over FC3, in general, it's just the size I have a gripe with. It is ENORMOUS.

Yup, I found myself trying to get as many Outposts as I could just so I could have more fast travel places available to me. I quite like how the 'progress' section in the game shows you exactly how many times you need to complete each side quest/gather each collectible for the rewards and achievements. I've already de-selected a bunch of different quests because I simply don't need to do them any more.

Re: the dialogue/jokes. Some of the stuff is goddamn hilarious, especially if you've had an Asian upbringing, but unfortunately the majority of it is very try-hard and is more a case of the "let's add naughty words to make it funny" school of comedy being used.

I just take it in the same way say, the Die Hard movies are taken.

Basically a cheesy action movie. At least I hope that's what they were going for.

Either way I enjoy the comedy in this game much more than GTA5.

Just got to the bit with the topless women :datass:

I agree. I love the but where Ravi (?) the DJ talks about peoples' theories on Pagan Min and says "some of your theories are quite interesting... by which I mean strawberry floating... STOOPID".

On the other hand...

I couldn't disagree more with that statement. GTA V was consistently hilarious and easily the funniest game I've ever played.

A mate got me this the other day. There were three of us looking to play together on PS4. Online co-op only allows two. OK, we thought, we'll group up and do some competitive stuff. Except you can't do that. You can invite friends to a game you're in, but it seems like the web code was actively preventing all of us from being on the same team.

A few of the maps were pretty good, and the two factions offer very different experiences with the match types on offer. Some fun was had taking turns on co-op as well, particularly flying the little helicopter around with a mate dangling on the grappling rope below. Not quite enough to overcome those initial disappointments though.

Christ, if you want an online shooter you've bought the wrong game.

The fortresses are a bit underwhelming, aren't they? The first 2 are. And those Yogi missions are absolutely dire.
The sheer lack of any attempt to build any characterisation is shocking. The character of Noore is a prime example, so undercooked and rushed. Pagan Min is as funny as an STI, just terrible terrible writing.
The beauty in the game is when you completely ignore anything to do with the campaign, which to me feels...not right.
