I'll await all your impressions.

Very impressive they have nailed the sense of speed of F-Zero but it all looks so soulless.

Can see them getting the f-zero contract since this has been reveiwing well. They just need a little Nintendo magic.

This is a good game but it would be a disastrous F-Zero game just because of the steering. You know what F-Zero had that would never work in this? Right angles, and loads of them too.

I played a bit and it's a great game but I can't see it being better than GX. That being said, it's wonderful to finally get a new, high-speed, futuristic arcade racer after so many years. I look forward to racing against some of you :toot:

Holy gooseberry fool, this is not easy. Getting confused as strawberry float with the controls. Wish you could change around the buttons.

Going to download this in a bit now :)

EDIT: Blimey, I forgot how long games take to install on the Wii U!

Good grief this game is tough o_o Great fun though, it's not a replacement for F-Zero but it's a fine furistic racer in its own right. It nails the sense of speed, which is vital for a game in such a genre.

Kind of feel people are willing this to be better than it is, in the absence of a proper F-Zero replacement. Nowhere near as good as the real thing, nor WipEout.

This has been my concern. We are so starved of futuristic racers that much emphasis has been put onto this title.

Just out of interest what have been your issues with the game?

Gonna be honest. I've got Sega All-stars, I've got Mario Kart.

Not sure why I'd need another racer.

Of course it isn't and nor should anyone expect it to be, especially at £11. But what it does it does very well indeed.

I don't think it does, though. Yeah, it's fast, and yeah, it's technically very good. But the handling is poor, the track design isn't particularly interesting, the process of jumping feels bizarrely clumsy (you wobble about in mid-air and smash down onto the track and it feels a bit like a crash) and the whole thing just lacks any kind of personality, and that's before you get onto the feeble crashes and the ludicrous punishment for them. It's just riding the coat-tails of better games. I greatly admire Shin'en's technical expertise, and it's accomplished a heck of a lot for a small team. But the amount of effort invested doesn't make the game any more fun to play. It was the same with Nano Assault Neo, and people went overboard with that, too - albeit less so than with this because twin-stick shooters are ten a penny, and futuristic racers aren't.

EDIT: I mean, if you want a fast-paced racer with great track design and handling then stick Mario Kart on 200cc.

I feel you're being overly harsh on it because of what others are saying and comparing it to, instead of taking it on its own merits. I've only played the one cup so far but I had no problem with the handling. Felt like WipEout to me. The crash as you land off a jump is mighty strange, though.

I dunno. I mean, it says quite a bit that the number of reviewers who finished the first grand prix on the middle difficulty was less than a fifth of those who finished it on novice, and it was even lower for the second one last I looked. I imagine the ratio is pretty similar now.

And as for the handling, I saw an expert player tackling Hero mode and he crashed into the side of the track about 12 times. It's not as responsive as F-Zero, it's not as fluid, it's not as stylish as WipEout (which I'm not the biggest fan of either, though I enjoyed 2048). Yeah, it's only £11, but there are so many better games to spend your time with.

I'd be very surprised if many were still playing it in a couple of months. If it really is the classic some are hailing it as, then it'll have longevity.
