This is a port of Fast Racing Neo from the Wii U but it looks to have some extra content. There were only 26 tracks on the Wii U, including its DLC, so that should mean four new tracks. We didn't play much of this when it came out so hopefully it gets a new lease of life from the Switch Squad. I'll be picking it up when it launches :toot:

I kept meaning to buy Fast Racing Neo on the Wii U, but never got around to it. Looks like I will be picking this up! We need something to fill the void of F-Zero. :)

I never picked this up on Wii U either so actually think it might be one I pick up, looks really good and will seemingly be the definitive version of the game.

I played the main cups and never went back. It's a decent game, just very, very bland. The biggest problem for me was the lack of modes.

If Nintendo had any brains, they'd get these guy working on a new F-Zero quick-sharp. But they won't because they don't.

Indeed, slap the F-Zero license on it and they'd sell a million at least.

Even if you don't agree that GX is the best F-Zero title, it's one of the best and was on a console with an install base of over 20 million. Nonetheless, there's no evidence it F-Zero GX sold one million copies so it's hard to say a new F-Zero game will sell over a million copies on a brand new console.

It seems that futuristic racers just aren't popular because even something like Redout didn't set the world on fire when it launched on Steam and Wipeout is only coming back as a collection of rereleases. I hope that the PS4's install base can give futuristic racers a big boost by lapping up Wipeout: Omega Collection, and I'll probably buy that myself, but I'm not holding my breath.

That's also coming to Switch apparently...

I feel nothing for this, nor Redout, and all because they look more like homages to Wipeout than F-Zero. I like Wipeout, I've nothing really against it, other than I was crap at it, but I *loved* F-Zero. That is all.

I think poor sales is definitely a huge reason why Nintendo haven't returned to the F-Zero franchise since GX. As has been said so many times, a HD remaster of GX with an online mode would be enough to keep most of the fanbase happy and I doubt the costs to Nintendo would be too high. It's about the only way I can see it making a come back though unfortunately.

There are no weapons in Fast Racing Neo - aesthetically it's closer to Wipeout, but gameplay is more like F-Zero (with the brilliant colour-switching mechanic all of its own).

I am excited for this, the original is a brilliant game - just very hard!

Also iirc, the devs of Fast Racing Neo said they wouldn't want to make an F-Zero game.

Redout hasn't done well at all on PC, so hopefully it and others will find a better home on consoles where futuristic racers have typically thrived.

I played this yesterday, I can see where Chalky's comment of bland comes from, but I only got to play two tracks of similar styles with a very basic car.

The racing felt very fluid though and I like the boost mechanic.

I played a bit of Fast Racing Neo...seemed decent, but lacking a certain something. A new F-Zero game is something that would majorly tempt me to get a Switch, but the sales for GX weren't great, so I guess that's why they're hesitant. Other futuristic racing gams just pale in comparison for me.

Seriously that game was great, but looked positively hideous in places. And I don't normally give two hoots about that kind of stuff.

I never played the Wii U version of Fast Racing Devlin Hates Jaggies Neo Geo. So my one race on the Switch is all the experience I've got. I played in splitscreen to (on the tv) and there were a few jaggies about. I wouldn't say it was terrible in this regard. It was pretty good. Wouldn't say I was blown away. I did like the boosting mechanic. I remember people saying it was really hard? But I won the race. It wasn't as fast as I expected (still hit a fair few walls though) but then it was probably on super easy or something.

If I was an early Switch adopter I could see myself picking this up for something else to play. But I probably wont be.

I didn't actually realise GX had sold so poorly-it didn't break a million sales on GameCube.

I still think they have nothing to lose from licensing out to a decent developer though. It would help satisfy their hardcore fan base.

Why are there only 3 critic reviews for this game on metacritic? where are all the reviews?

Can't really fault this for a budget title. It's like a very good clone/rip off of Wipeout and F-Zero. I like the way that gravity plays a part too, I always found in down hill loops going into corners that Wipeout and F-Zero would treat them as a normal corner but to its credit this has the craft understeer in the direction of gravity.

So yeah it is kind of characterless but for the price you really can't go wrong.

It's technically quite solid as well. Was playing four player split screen the other day and it didn't seem to take any kind of hit to the speed of it. Looking forward to the update to add in online play with friends.

When they add online play with friends I'll probably set up a UK account and buy this.

For now I can wait.
