PostSerious Sam 3 It's actually really awesome and it's out now!
by Jingle Ord The Way » Mon Feb 28, 2011 4:59 pm

2011 seems to be a marvellous year for old school FPS fans out there. What with the fabulous Bulletstorm out last week and the forthcoming Duke Nukem Forever finally getting a release, fans of dumb shooters can finally get some respite from the po-faced military shooters that seem to dominate. Now Serious Sam returns this year and there are some screenshots to go with that news. -
Serious Sam 3 will launch on PC and game consoles this summer, Texas publisher Devolver Digital has announced.

The series prequel is described as a "glorious throwback to the golden age of first-person shooters where men were men, cover was for amateurs and pulling the trigger made things go boom".

It takes place during Earth's struggle against Mental's invading legions. There are collapsing temples, ancient civilisations and crumbling 22nd century Egyptian cities.

SS3 boasts that it lacks a cover system, and that there is no camping - "it's just you and them. All of them", developer Croteam gushed. Beasties include the Scrapjack, the huge Khnum, Headless Kamikaze, Gnaar and Sirian Werebull.

There are new melee attacks, a 16-player campaign and versus modes, including Deathmatch and Beast Hunt. :o

"Serious Sam 3 is about pure fun and unfiltered action," Croteam creative boss Davor Hunski said. "We wanted to expand on everything gamers love about the series while adding some genuinely unique new features to really enhance the mayhem Serious Sam is known for."

Just wondering, what made Serious Sam 2 gooseberry fool? I've never played it due to poor opinions so I stayed away.

Hang on, 16-Player Campaign? Is that going to be full campaign co-op?

Better be. I loved the original too, but after the poor XBLA versions with their lack of split screen I'm a bit... apprehensive of this.

The humour, level design, too many awful cutscenes, inclusion of crappy implemented gun turret sections and it was buggy. It looked lovely mind.

Gotta wonder what kind of specs will be required when it looks that good, the consoles may struggle without a few cutbacks.
As Ord mentioned, if it's anything like First or Second Encounter then I'm in. Not so much if it's like the awful, awful SS2.

Ah right, thanks. Glad I didn't get it when it came out on Xbox years ago. Hoping this will be like First&Second Encounter, rather than just another modern FPS nonsense although seeing Bulletstorm and Duke Nukem Forever, the classic FPS might be returning :o

As I accidently posted in that other thread, the trailer is a bit too "serious" for my liking. It still looks fun to play though.

Ohh Can't wait for this. Also I didn't think SS2 was that bad, although I never got through the damn thing, after stopping for a month and patching it something happened to my saves. :x

That was Unreal wasn't it?
I'm luke warm on this. It just looks like a prettier update of the previous Serious Sam games and the HD revisions of those games still great now.

Do you mean the engine? No they made their own engine for the game, Serious Engine 3 iirc.

No, I wasn't talking about not the engine. I was talking about the Flak gun.

Ah ok, yeah it is quite strange that they didn't show it, but then again they didn't show any sort of saw either and that's pretty much a staple of the series, maybe it's being replaced by the sledge hammer though. Still if there is no flak gun WTF! What's next? No Santa outfit for the multiplayer?
