thought I'd change things up and see what you guys favourite point and click games are, especially lesser known ones as there's so many out there

good idea to give a little description of what the game is like because adventure games aren't just for a quick pick up n play usually

my choices

Broken Sword
Image
obvious choice I guess. just entered its 5th entry in the series. classic point n click with great music and talented voice acting. about an american tourist in france who becomes involved in a serial killer plot based around the knights templar.

reccomend playing the original versions of broken sword 1 instead of the directors cut.

1,2,3 are really good despite 3's bizzare interface. i never got past the start of 4, but apparently its not that good so ehh

Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator
Image
made using adventure game studio by Francisco Gonzalez. 8-part adventure game about a fresh out of college guy who decides to become a paranormal investigator. each case gets better and better and has awesome music throughout the series. showcases what the AGS can do and a great overarching plot for the series.

case 1 and 2 available as a deluxe edition with voice acting and developer commentary too. this is a series that evolves and gets more complex over the course of the series.

the series really picks up around case 3, like legit.

Discworld Noir
Image
so much better than the two other discworld games in my opinion. play as a detective hired to solve a missing persons case which develops into a much grander plot fairly quickly. awesome voice acting, nails the noir atmosphere perfectly along with the jazz noir soundtrack. possibly my favourite adventure game of all time. trademark discworld humour in abundance.

5 Days a Stranger series
Image
made by ben yahtzee Crashaw of theescapist (and his own YouTube channel). another series of games made in AGS . 5 days is about a thief breaking into an old mansion to see what loot he can grab but soon turns into a kinda haunted horror house kinda game. later games ramp up the horror aspect and are equally as amazing. overarching plot line spanning hundreds of years about a mask sorta thing. one of the games is set on a space station/ship and crew members are getting killed off by a possessed person/thing. gripping stuff.

it's better than what im selling it as. so good though.

those are probably my top 4 adventure game series/standalones! what are yours??

Never really got into the Monkey Island series, the puzzle solving seemed very farfetched for me and I never got far - same with the Sam & Max series. I did play more of the Telltale series than the original ones of both those franchises..

And I've never played maniac mansion or day of the tentacle either. For shame.

I really like horror/detective adventure games - am looking at Grim Fandango, Texas Murphy and some others to start playing. Played a bit of Gemini Rue and was pretty decent, my sister finished it though without me ):

Monkey Island always had the best music. Secret and LeChuck's Revenge are both equally great.

Oh and outside of LucasArts there's only one really essential adventure game as far as I'm concerned...

...it was a miracle it ever got made at all, the fact they took so many risks with it and they pretty much all paid off is what really makes it exceptional.

EDIT - Something to read if you are interested in Blade Runner

Most of my favourites have already been mentioned on here. Except for the longest journey, I'm on my phone so I can't do the game justice, maybe I will later.

Broken Sword is the game that first introduced me to the wonders of the internet! We didn't have t'internet at home, and I would play Broken Sword (aged about 9) and complain to my dad that I had no idea what to do at a certain point.

He'd come home at work the next day and say "I have been thinking about this at work... have you tried stealing the toilet brush off the merchant using it with his BBQ?" I thought he was a genius, turns out he was just printing walkthroughs at work and helping me :slol: :slol: :fp:

Toonstruck is another that stands out. strawberry floating scary looking to a 10 year old, mind, but Christopher Lloyd was in it and it was wacky and fun.

I really did like Discworld Noir, but the game broke at a certain point & there was no way of continuing. At the time I couldn't be bothered to start it all again so to this day have never finished it. Would happily play a remake.

Discworld 2 had quite a few funny moments. Didn't think much of Discworld 1 though - without a guide you didn't have a hope in hell because it was so random.

Jack Orlando meanwhile...well, constantly dying all the time for things you couldn't possibly know or avoid was no fun at all. I think I gave up when I got crowbard to death in an abandoned house. Loved the setting though.

Absolutely loved the Blade Runner game back when it came out. While it might not have been the best ever I just loved the chance to go around that universe and it looked so good. Would love a remastered version but there's probably little demand and too many rights issues.

Other P&C games I played way too much of were the Broken Sword games and Discword 2

It sold over a million copies but cost a fortune to make (for the time), apparently much of the original assets have been lost, even if it was somehow possible to redo that it'd cost too much to make.

EDGE The Making Of: Blade Runner wrote:Tragically, and despite the resurrections of games like Beneath A Steel Sky and The Secret Of Monkey Island, there won’t even be a remake. To restore almost a terabyte of assets, whether for new prerendered backdrops or full realtime 3D, would itself cost tens of millions of dollars. What’s worse, you’d have to find them to start with, which might well require a time machine. Stored on magnetic platters, most of Blade Runner vanished when Westwood was liquidated by EA in 2003. It’s lost, as a mad Dutchman might say, like tears in rain.
