PostFavourite Video Game Twists *Spoilers obviously*

It's always great when a story takes a sudden twist and leaves you shocked. I thought it would be fun to list some of your personal favourite videogame twists.

I do the Silent Hill series up the bum, so my list includes 2 and Homecoming.

Silent Hill 2

Finding out that main character James Sunderland actually murdered his wife, half to stop her suffering and half because he was frustrated sexually because of her illness. We all thought we were controlling a genuinley nice guy up until that point.

Silent Hill Homecoming

Yeah you could sort of see it coming but finding out Alex killed his own brother in a little brotherly scuff was really quite shocking and sad, mostly because I could relate to it. Plus how the accidental death was linked to what was going on in the town was really cleverly done.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

The saddest ending ever I think. Thinking The Boss was the bad girl throughout, having to kill her yourself only to find out she sacrificed herself for her country was quite heartbreaking. She was a very well developed character and you could really feel Big Bosses pain at the end, plus the music was perfect.

MGS1
That wasn't the DARPA Chief
The Ninja = Gray Fox (looking back on it, obviously I hadn't a clue first time round)

MGS2
You play as Raiden for the most part
Snake's dead
Snake turns on you in the computer room
The whole AI Colonel situation at the end
The Patriots being dead 100 years
Vamp beside a taxi in the background of NYC

MGS4
Para-Medic was Dr Clark (who created the Ninja)
SIGINT = DARPA Chief
Big Boss is alive

GTA San Andreas
Ryder & Smoke turn on you

Hitman Blood Money
Diana turns on you, then revives you

Stranger's Wrath
Discovering the true identity of the character you have been playing is actually the creature the villain is hunting, and then the gameplay totally changing from a mission based structure to a campaign mode and the pace of the plot going ito overdrive.

Also, Bioshock.

Knights of the old republic, to this day, is the biggest twist/shock i've seen in a game. I literally didn't see it coming and it was at a time where i didn't visit forums and stuff, so i didn't have it spoiled for me.

I liked Mass Effect's story. When you find out what's is going on when on Virmire and you discover that Soverign's an actual Reaper and all along has been the real threat and not Saren. The whole mood of the game changed after this and it just got better and better. Finding out what happened to the Reapers was brilliant as well.

When i played Fallout 3 for the first time, the bit where Dad died shocked me alot. After spending a large chunk of the game searching for and finally finding him, i was really shocked when he died.

KOTOR is the one that massively springs to mind. A massive surprise, cant think of anything even coming close to that. (Never played MGS games so they might, but meh)

Oh wait Neverwinter Nights............. though I am struggling to remember it now...... some one must know what I mean

Killer 7
Finding out that Garcian was really Emir and had bumped off the Killer 7 years before was a shocker. Probably the only bit of the game I understood completely.

That's not what happened at all. So obviously you didn't understand it completely.

Anyway, I'm going to go with MadWorld.

"I don't help people...I kill them."*

*Yeah, it's not really a twist, and Leonardo's involvement is more of a twist, but they're all little minor chicanes which add up to make a compelling story and I wanted an excuse to post that quote as it's one of the best closing lines in a game ever. And then the credits...just brilliant. What a game.

Borrowed from Wikipedia - At the hotel Garcian discovers that all of the Killer7 personas were victims of the massacre, all killed by Emir, save for Garcian; Garcian's persona is actually that of Emir's, who committed suicide after realizing he had shot his mentor, Harman. Emir reincarnated as Harman, Garcian, and the other Killer7 personalities, but had forgotten his past, and relearns of the painful truth in the present.

Didn't completely get some of the bits in the hotel but I did understand the whole Emir business

Eternal Darkness
Mantorok is manipulating Alex and the others in order to destroy the three other Ancients and free himself.

You mean the flip-flopping Paladin with the big norks? Damn, that was a lame-ass plot.

Yeah, I know. I was joking - you were saying it was the one thing you understood completely so I pretended you hadn't. Not particularly funny, but it seemed a good idea at the time. Should've used a Mr. Winky in hindsight.

But yeah, I think it was one of the few bits I fully understood. And yep, it's one of the all-time great twists.

Probably the KoToR one, I really didnt see that either...and

Resident Evil

You all know the bit at the end, I honestly had no idea and the first time Barry turned on me (or not) because he died in the sewers on my first run through I never knew about him and wesker, I was generally gob smacked when I found out, innocence eh?

Fabian Delph is a banana split.
