PostFeatures missing from GTA IV
by Codename 47 » Tue Sep 02, 2008 4:44 pm

Now this isn't a GTA 4 bashing thread, i think it's a pretty good game, but i was reading through an old XBW magazine and there's alot of stuff they talk about that just didn't make the full game. This preview is from like the May 08 issue of XBW and i'll provide the scans.

I don't how much of this is inaccurate info from XBW but it does explain one or two things - like why Alderney is so empty when XBW say a mall(Think Vice City) and several pieces of property was supposed to be there.

Can anyone else remember any stuff that got dropped from the final game?

Here's a few things i noticed that were missing from the game that were mentioned in the scans:

Loads of mini games - Basketball, Go Go Space Monkey and a Driving Range

Being able to upload and share images

Civilians ringing police on you if you commit a crime - News would give a description of you

Rides at the theme park would be rideable and theme park would pay a part in missions

Being able to actually go inside Videogeddon Arcade - supppoedly featuring people and posters that hate videogames

Sky tram will be rideable

Being able to listen to music on your phone

Taking pictures on your phone - XBW thought more missions would use this

Alderney will feature malls and Condo's - "A great place to accumulate property"(and money)

Alderney will feature "an expanse of wetlands" similar to the New Jersey Meadow lands.

Im pretty sure you do see people phoning the police on you. I must admit though i remember reading a lot of things before the game came out, then they weren't in the final game. Shame, some of them were interesting.

Bit OT but did anyone else see that the PC Version has an upload feature?

It constantly records the last 30 seconds then if something worth uploading happens those 30 seconds are saved.

Not really answering the topic here (as I have no idea if this was 'meant' to be in it), but they really should've allowed you to skip driving to a mission when you keep failing it.

Another person discovers that Rockstar are a bunch of liars.

Anyone remember the time when Dan Houser told Official PlayStation Magazine that they were battling to fit San Andreas on a dual layer DVD and then later that year the game shipped on a single layer disc? :fp:

One area that I’m really involved in is creating the audio assets – I think we’ll have well over 400 speaking parts, which is insanity. The amount of studio time we’re having to get through and the amount of writing that’s involved, we’re more worried about getting it on the disc. That’s our initial challenge. We’re having to go to dual layer DVD because we’ve already filled up a full DVD.

They also said that one of the first missions would have you kill a lawyer who, before he died, would blame your actions on playing too many games.

I was upset that they removed all the bottom pegs from the telephone poles so you can't climb them. Many previews specifically mentioned climbing telephone poles and that the game made a big deal about being much more vertical than previous ones, but in the end it wasn't.

I recall they intended to put in shades of red, green, blue, orange etc rather than just 10000 different shades of brown.

Characters who go downstairs to get something only to discover they can't remember what they have gone downstairs for and stand about for a while in confusion.

Why has the game not got any Wizards :x . Would it kill them to put in one solitary spell hurler to spice things up a bit.

Sorry for veering slightly OT but the amount of GTAIV hate completely baffles me, its a great game. How people who enjoyed the PS2 games failed to like IV is beyond me.

Personally the whole idea of the game is just not for me. I feel its part of the aggrandizement of gang culture that I just can't agree with. I have no problem with other people playing and loving the game I just don't care for it is all.
they really should've allowed you to skip driving to a mission when you keep failing it.
I know, thats actually one of the reasons I stopped playing it. You had to drive to the mission then drive somebody to the actual mission, then shoot some people. I got bored. And there wasn't enough to do in Liberty City either.

Wow! I really didn't like this game.
