Gongaga can actually suck on my prostate

I just spent like 20 minutes trying to get to the protorelic quest, I still have no strawberry floating idea how.

Also it sure would be nice if some of the abilities had more detail.

How is it that the level up screen has +5% this, +3% that, but it won't tell me how much art of war, Star shower, doppelganger etc boosts moves by?

I decided to give up on the chocobo flying thing and some other side quests in cosmo canyon and headed to Nibelheim. So far it seems like it is a normal level with no bs to reach some of the places.... Pretty sure I will be surprised

120 hours and I am standing down. Have a glitch on the very last side quest so waiting for a patch so I can complete it (even though I have done the bike mission its still showing as incomplete)

You can just get the Rank 1 requirements for the Chocobo Flying side quests and complete the quest. So far it’s the only quest I really need to finish.

I’ve unlocked the glitched biker mission but haven’t done it yet until a patch fixes this.

Also abandoned the Blood Queen finale as I don’t think I have enough cards to beat her yet. Something for me to do post game polish up

I’m moving on to Cosmo Canyon now and, yep, Gongaga was just wonderful. Completely have to disagree with the others that have mentioned it in here. Compared to the other areas, it’s just fantastically coherent. Probably the only area that felt like a real “place” rather than simply a “space” to pad out the map markers with annoyingly difficult terrain to traverse where they could have easily went for something more open and frictionless.

That glitch can be avoided by installing from the disk and not installing any patches btw

Yeah which isn’t possible with digital copy.

Finished the story. I’m not sure about the ending. It’s a bit confusing.

Worried that people seem to be calling Gongaga out as a sticking point as I'm still in Corel and am already beginning to feel my enthusiasm and motivation to plough on begin to seriously wane...

Not enjoying this Cactuar protorelic side quest. I don't particularly enjoy fighting as the characters it is forcing me to use which doesn't help

You can only do 2 when you first start the Cactus protorelic side quest. The little shite forces you to wait until much later in the game to do the last two.

I can manage to do the max rank with Yuffie (and Yuffie is a very good fighter.) but struggled with Aerith.

I would recommend you to practice with the other characters before you move on. As there will be several incidents in the game that you are forced to play with other characters. I struggled with Cait Sith in a much later chapter.

Yeah I finished the second one last night and the goblin prick is like "Yeah give me your number and I'll shout you when I'm ready for the next round"... WTF?!

Also, not going to lie, I hadn't realised Cait Sith was actually in my party and playable, I just assumed he was tagging along like Red XIII at the end of Remake :slol:

I would suggest get used to Cait Sith as soon as possible as:

You will have to fight with Cait Sith alone in Nibeliem.

I still think he's useless as strawberry float though. Having to waste a ATB just to bring out the large moggle to ride on. WTF.

Also general rant about the game:

It isn't very clear on how to change your party members. Had to google to find out how. Yes the game does say how at the start but I can't remember how after 30 or so hours. Also the upgrade weapons in the main menu options is basically useless. I find the upgrade system in the first game is much better. I don't know why I need to walk to a machine to do the upgrades.

Basically they need to improve the menu options. Also saving materia load outs would be lovely (which is also missing from the Remake too.)

I still don't know how you change party outside of going into the "Combat Settings" menu (no, not the "Party" menu because that would be too obvious! :fp: ) is there a way to change between parties "on the fly" whilst you are running around or do you have to go into the menu?

And yeah the weapon upgrades menu is utterly pointless, feels like a leftover from an earlier version of the game that they didn't bother to delete.

You press X to open the command menu and then the shoulder buttons to cycle through your three party presets.

I moved on to Chapter 11 last night, for the first time not doing everything in the previous area I could. I only left the final green sidequest because they’re double-dipping Red XIII companion quests in the area and I don’t want to end up with him as the highest bond when it matters.

I knew it was something like that! I might actually start mixing up my party members more as a result - been very much an "OG Avalanche Crew" main with Barret, Cloud and Tifa so far :datass:
