Re-branded and remade after the PC version got so much stick.

Beta Testing

The MMO role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn invites you to explore the world of Eorzea with friends from across the world. Forge friendships, mount up on a chocobo, board an airship with your friends and create your own unique stories within the Final Fantasy Universe. Undertake epic quests and battle with familiar Final Fantasy monsters alone or enlist the help of your friends. Each player will have their own unique abilities and equipment that they have acquired during their adventures. Work together to help forge the fate of Eorzea!

The life of an adventurer is the pursuit of fortune and the pursuit of fame. It is the devotion of oneself to seeking out danger and glory wherever they might lie. It is an endless quest taken up only by the most intrepid and dauntless of souls. The people of Eorzea come with their myriad pleas and requests to their local Adventurers' Guild, and here it is that adventurers heed the call, whether it be the slaying of some foul beast plaguing the countryside, or the crafting of fine wares demanding a master's touch.
What greatness lies in store for you, adventurer?

Is this a MMORPG?

Not that it matters as Final Fantasy really peaked at IX. X was okay but it goes down the mountain faster than Jill being gangbanged down the hill by Jack.

Yeah it's a MMORPG, I hope they have improved it to the levels of 11 because I spent a lot of hours doing nothing but loving it.

Final Fantasy XII is my favourite of the lot so take that back ;)

Q1 of 2013 8-)

The PC version is already out but wasn't well received! So my understanding is they remade it for the PS3.

I believe they are already doing Beta testing

Well, that makes me wish I had more time on my hands. I can't even scratch the surface of stuff like that. For shame.

Are they remaking/relaunching the PC version as well or going entirely with PS3 this time?

Think it's just the remake

The pc version wasn't well received simply due to it being massively broken, so broken in fact that they had to redo most of it and make reborn.

I dont know why, but that sounds strawberry floating incredible.

Think it's just the remake

I just meant are they doing it on PC aswell or closing the PC version entirely and just going PS3.

I gave the PC version a try ages ago, back when it first came out the again a few months later and I just ended up getting lost.
Will likely have aanother try when the PC version of Reborn comes along though.

A Realm Reborn isn't so much a remake as it is a sequel. It's a largely new development team, an entirely new engine and vastly redesigned world, with entirely new questing, adventuring and battling mechanics. The events of Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 came to a close last week, culminating in Dalamud crashing down on Eorzea as the Garlean army launched their full invasion. A Realm Reborn picks up 5 years after that.

The game will be available on both PC and PS3, and possibly other formats down the line, with one account working across all versions of the game and everyone playing on the same servers. The PC version of A Realm Reborn is in alpha testing now, soon to be beta testing, with the PS3 version coming soon afterwards. The current plan is for both versions to officially launch sometime in Spring 2013, although Square are currently a month or so behind their planned roadmap as they're making sure after the reception of the original game to not rush this one.

The ending video had quite the amazing twist, as we had all been led to believe that Dalamud was a moon not a prison. While the engine of 1.0 was dodgy and broken, the stuff that is getting carried over to A Realm Reborn (the story, quests and characters) are all ace.

I got the game on launch and it was absolutely strawberry floating gooseberry fool. The game barely worked, its laggy as hell (takes seconds upon seconds just to open basic menus) and it had some really bad design choices such as limited levelling and questing. I will probably get a month sub though once the new version is out for it on PC, as said I believe its going ahead at the moment in beta.

Producer and director Naoki Yoshida on why they're sticking with the subscription based model rather than going free to play:
