I get that at the time these updates were coming out it was nice to have so much new content all the time, but having to play it all back-to-back is nuts. There are more story quests between the end of ARR and the start of HW than there are in HW total. Madness.

Yeah I noticed that, it was insane.

I'm currently on a 60 day Wow sub but after that I think I'll rotate back to this. Need to get more through HW before I pick up the new expansion though.
Still maining Summoner but was working towards White/Black mage last time I played as well. Was working up my Conjurer I think. Shouldn't take too long at least, healers usually don't have to wait long in dungeon queues.

I'm gonna get back into this, too. I keep saying I will but have never actually done so. Now feels like a good time!

I'll practically be starting from scratch because I didn't know much about the game anyway  .

One of the good things about coming back after a break is that chances are you'll have a low level class to work on to get back into the swing.

I think I was some kind of Mage... a really low level one. I think I just about had enough power to take out a dung beetle or something  .

When you go back you'll also have the option to join the "new/returning players" novice group that gives you a chatroom full of mentors and a few refresher quests to get you back up to speed.

That sounds useful, jiggles - thanks, man, I'll check it out.

Jawa - I just picked up quest for Samurai and it gave me job crystal which made me lv50 SAM as soon as I finished quest. I haven't touched it nor Red Mage

Been levelling AST and PLD so I can have healer and tank alongside my already lv70 BLM

Sounds good, man! Although I don't know what AST, PLD or BLM are  .

I can't even get into the game at the moment. I'm on the Cerberus (EU) server and there is always a huge queue so I'm thinking of switching to a new server. I know that you mainly play on Balmung (USA) but that is also full and I'd like to stick with an EU-based server.

Does this mean that Louisiox is the only EU server accepting transfers (because it has a O symbol rather than an X)?

AST - Astrologion (healer job introduced in heavenward 3.0)
PLD - Paladin (Gladiators after lv30)
BLM - Black Mage (Thaumaturges after lv30)

And think so, im not sure. Balmung has problems too and im only staying on it because got friends on it x_x

Ah, okay, thanks dude! My character is, I think, a BLM (albeit I'm only on level 13 or something!)

Yeah, Cerberus is crazy - I'm currenlty waiting to play and it's been thirty minutes so far and I'm still only 295th in the queue :fp: . I don't really mind where I switch to (no friends etc  :( ) but I think that Louisoix is the only EU server accepting transfers at the moment. I might request the transfer for that one.

Never more than a 30 second wait to get into Ultros :datass:

This Heavensward story content is very good. And I've heard Stormblood is equally great. Looking forward to getting caught up so I can experience the new updates alongside everyone else.

I'm so tempted to get into this. It's the only mainline Final Fantasy I don't own or haven't played. I've been watching someone streaming WoW recently, and I'm so tempted, but I'm not getting a new capable PC anytime soon. This and ESO are both very tempting alternative prospects.

I remember being really frustrated that XI was really not solo friendly, and I understand it's an MMO, but often I can play inconsistent and unsociable hours, and getting a group was a hassle at times. Is this a bit more solo friendly? Is the trial a good indication of the game?

I don't even know why I'm asking, I have so little spare time as it is, but MMO's have always held an allure for me, and it sounds like a lot of you guys are having fun. It sounds like none of you are playing together though?

It's a game that's mostly about playing alone, really. Grouping up is mainly for endgame content, or a few story quests here and there. But even then, there's matchmaking for that, so you can still do it effectively "alone".

It's like a FF greatest hits compendium, rather than a standalone mainline entry. Full of references and nods to the other games, but it's closest to XII overall, in terms of setting and writing.

XIV has possibly the best world setting of any Final Fantasy. The amount of care and detail that's gone into pretty much every aspect of it is fascinating. There's a part in Stormblood where you interact with several different tribes and each one is fleshed out, given their own origin, religion and traditions, and each interact with the others in different ways. And there are even more that they put in the official RP and naming convention guide just in case you want to play a lore friendly character.

As for the story, I feel A Realm Reborn suffers from being an MMO and having to railroad you somewhat by the mainquest. Because they have to make sure you're at least close to the required level to group up with 3 other people to run dungeons there's a lot of padding that only really exists to give you exp. And up to about half way through the 2.X patches everything gets pushed to the side so it can fill out the trial count. But the core of the story is still pretty solid.

It's when it hits the latter half of 2.X going into Heavensward that it goes from "pretty solid" to "One of the better FF games", going from strength to strength. The pacing issues are much improved due to only needing to pad out for 10 levels rather than 50. And then Stormblood is better yet, I'd say.

So I'd highly recommend it even as a single player game. The only problem might be queue times for story dungeons or bosses, but they're all put into duty roulettes that give end-game rewards meaning people will always be going back to run old things so it shouldn't be all that bad. The free trial runs up to level 35 nowadays with no playtime limit iirc so I'd suggest giving it a crack.

I've had the game for a while now but I've only dabbled with it; I feel like I'm brand new to it and know very little. But... I am impressed by it and I do enjoy it. I'm currently returning after nearly a year away and I need to spend some time re-learning the basics.

The graphics and sound are lovely; it feels like the developer has worked just as hard on the console version as the PC version. I use a keyboard with my PS4 and that is a real boon. Oddly I've barely touched any other Final Fantasy game but this one attracts me!

I'm hopefully going to transfer to a new world today as Cerberus is just too congested. This should kick-start my focus and help me to build my understanding of the game.

Thank you for the advice Jiggles and Met. I'm downloading now. Hopefully if I enjoy it, the bundle will have dropped in price by the time I'm level 35.

So... I moved worlds from Cerberus EU (ultra full) to Omega EU (new world)... and I still can't log in :o . I'm in a queue of 1,032 and it's moving really slowly. A bit frustrating.
