PostFFXIV: ARR/Heavensward [PS3/PS4/PC] Welcome to Eorzea

So I have this hovering over my basket and am wondering whether to get it before the sale price expires.

It's £23 for the game and expansion right? Is it on sale often? I have just bought Diablo and Driveclub, so if it crops up frequently I'd leave it until then (ideally, if I saw the base game for a tenner I'd shell out just for that).

And what is the game like for solo players? Due to time differences, I probably won't get much chance to play with European players, despite setting my world to that region in the trial. I couldn't convince my friends to buy it also.

I didn't manage to play the trial much, so can't really make a concrete decision on what to do, as you may have guessed.

It's the subscription fee I worry about, having never had one before. If the game was just a straight £23 I would have jumped in. But I am a little reluctant as I would want to get my £8's worth each month and not just have it come out my bank account without using it (like what happens with Netflix when I don't use it/forget to cancel).

There are mandatory party dungeons but you can get a random party easy enough and (I may be 100% wrong) they are cross-server so timezones shouldn't be that much of an issue.

Besides, there's always going to be someone on, probably looking for the same dungeon as you.

That said, the dungeons and trials, which are MP, are generally the best bits due to the way the roles mesh together.

Anyway, you can always just make a new character on a different server if you're worried about timezones and don't mind doing the few hours of the trual again but it's not too big a deal.

I've mainly played on my own but I really enjoy it. There are a few group quests that you have to do but, as Met said, you can join up with random people to complete them. At worst, you'll have to wait ten minutes or so until you're in a group but you can still do other quests and events in your area. If you play as a tank class, you probably won't ever be waiting for long.

You can buy 60 day time cards from cdkeys.com so that you don't have money coming out of your account without you realising it.

A cool looking PvP mode, Feast, has launched today! You gotta be high level (60) which is way beyond me, but I know some of you guys are there.

Paging Seven to the thread!

I never bothered with PvP. Just doesn't appeal much to me.
Taking a Dark Souls related break but I'll jump in every now and then to get my weekly caps on tomes and raids. I'll probably finally pick up my tank as a secondary job when I go back properly.

I've tried some Feast PvP and it's actually PvP done right. The matches are very fast now, although I've not gone back to it after like 4 games of it :slol: It's very, very difficult as BLM since you're "easy" target in it. However I changed some accessories, made it VIT-accessory and changed my tactic I was doing better in fights.

I've just been doing other stuff on FF14 mostly but might return to PvP someday. Right now I have:

- become second-high rank of FC I'm in (although it didn't really matter to me, if I can help people in FC then great)
- all crafters to Lv60, so I can meld every item in the game myself, and for other people too
- Got to IL 222 on Black Mage (along i217 Summoner, i218 Dragoon)
- made new friends outside of FC
- Become "mentor" although as soon as I got in I removed the crown. I don't want the crown, I want to help newbies
- Levelled my alt (who's Lalafell) on same server, he's at Brayflox and is Paladin as main job
- Able to craft 3-star recipes as Blacksmith with food; at least normal quality. Means I can craft Replica Allagan/High Allagan weapons (though personally most look tacky to me :dread: )

My goals are:

- Farm Shiva Ex until I get ice pony to get that pony which you get with all 6 primal ponies
- Hit rest of my non-60 classes to.... 60. That means Paladin (44), Astrologan (41), Monk (41) and Dark Knight (49)
- Get Fenrir at Gold Saucer... right now I'm on 270k MGP so it'll be while, but they buffed MGP rewards so it won't be too bad.
- Get into chocobo racing. About to hit rank40 on my second chocobo (released first bird for no real reason :u)
- Gearing up my alternative classes to i200 standards
- Finish i200->i210 relic weapon step

I have no plans doing harder content (Alexander Savage), yet there's so much to do in the game... probably why I've not bought much games nowadays.

It sounds like you're totally rockin' this, Seven. I really want to get back into the game but I've dipped my toes into Elder Scrolls Online and I just can't play two MMOs at the same time.

But... although I enjoy ESO, I think I kinda prefer FF XIV - mainly because of the far better player interaction. Hmmn, will have a think.

I loved my time with XIV and I wish that I had more time to play it. At the start of the year, I bought a 60 day time card but only used it for a few hours  There was a free login campaign that finished a few days ago but I didn't even get around to playing during that. I might resub if summer is quiet in terms of releases.

I'm working on my way to unlocking Heavensward still.

Since I've beaten A Realm Reborn's main story, I've gone through A Realm Awoken and Through the Maelstrom, and done some lv50 sidequests here and there. I'm just about to hit level 52, so I'm well ahead of where I need to be, considering there's the Defenders of Eorzea, Dreams of Ice and Before the Fall campaigns still to do before I can make a start on the expansion (which you're supposed to start at 50). The Hildebrand sidequests are crazy and magnificent, so I'm glad to see from the newest patch notes that they're still ongoing.

So yeah, I'm about 120 hours in, trying to unlock the 70+ hour DLC campaign, and I've only been working on one class, mostly directly through the MSQ. If I was looking to do all the sidequests/classes/dungeons/raids/hunts/crafting/gathering/minigames this is easily a 1,500+ hour game. I don't even want to look at PvP on top of that.

... :o . The game has been out (on PC) for 32 months, so I guess that's around 66 hours per month. Seveeeeeeeeeeen!

Of course, I believe that you've additionally put a wee bit of time into the PS4 version?

That bow looks pretty sick.

In an unrelated note: might forgo lancer and pick up bard when I swing back round.

There's another free log-in campaign until the end of August. This time you get 5 days of playtime that run from the moment that you log in. Hopefully I'll get around to using it as I've enjoyed playing the game but I never feel confident that I'll actually get around to playing it again if I resubscribe.

Yokai has gone live, Seven :toot: . I guess you're already trying it out?

I saw that offer and wondered if it'd tempt you back, Dragon! For some reason I *still* haven't returned to the game and I need to sort that out.

strawberry float this Yo-kai event.
Getting flashbacks to my relic quests. And I hear for the last couple of weapons you need 30 medals to drop.

Anyway, my friend has finally made it to end-game, around i210. So I've been running him through The Weeping City and Alexander. Another tank in my FC just topped i220 so I've gone from a dearth of tanks to like 3 I can call on whenever.

In other news, working on getting my Bard to 60. Already got a fair amount of 230 gear waiting for it. Doing this for PF stuff since healer spots fill up almost instantly.

So, lot of things have happened recently from... April until today. I'll summary up:

- I have reached level 60 in every class available, last being AST.
- I've also changed my alternative character; Zu Dzigo from Lalafell to Hellsguard pink Roegadyn and I love him. Lv46 Warrior at the moment with 3+ crafters at lv50.
- I've gave Yokai event a go, and yeah it's basically FATE grinding. I am planning to get every weapons though, even if it takes time! It doesn't end until October though - so no rush!
- Haven't done much in hard content. Been mostly chatting to people.

Onto what makes it suck for me...

- Lost two of friends who I thought was really close with, I guess I got burned...
- Left old FC (FUN) and joined END FC and I have to say it's much, much better leaving old FC behind. The FC leader (one of my ex-friends) wasn't great person as I thought she was and I decided to not stick around to put up with her anymore. I mean, I tried to help her and she pushed me away anyway.
- Lot of issues, that's why I was kinda quiet from GRcade. Dealing with personal problems irl and in FFXIV.

On bright side:

- Made lot of friends, and actually became best friends with two people; one who quit the game but we still talk on Steam, and another who is still in old FC. We're basically true #roebros <3
- I actually met my boyfriend in-game! Neither of us expected to, we played the game for fun, ya know? But as we hang out a lot and stuff happened... well, let's say we're basically dating for good while now.
- The new FC is fantastic actually, talking to various of people and it's set in Larvaders Bed. Also hot tub parties. Yes.
- I got my own home in Goblet! Spent lot of in-game money to make it look pretty...
- It's also given me more confidence, being myself for once and I actually enjoy talking to people more than I thought, be it in FC or outside - I even now hang at Limsa whereabouts in past I stayed away from that place. I've find this carried over to real life; hard to explain... but yeah I've been more direct and stand my own guard now.

Sooo yeah, lot of stuff happened. I didn't think it'd be from game especially in past I shy away from MMOs but now it's been a while journey haha.

...and I need to drag myself away from FFXIV to play other games... oh well.

edit:  That April post of my playtime. I'm scared to show you guys my current playtime now. :dread:

It sounds like you had a lot going on, Seven. It's great to hear that you're now in a happier place and it's good to see you back here in GR.

Well played on ranking up your characters - that takes a lot of dedication. I still haven't got back into the game (no surprises there!) but I haven't forgotten about it. It's such a cool game that I do want to return.

Seven, man, you gotta roar back into Mario Kart Mondays. A range of GRcadians play now and it'd be ace to see you back and challenging for the crown!

Great post, Seven :toot:

I'm looking forward to jumping back in for the free log in campaign that's currently running. If No Man's Sky wasn't out this week, I'd definitely be playing on the weekend.
