No easy version this time 'round. Glad that there isn't any relationship/waifu gooseberry fool in this one. though.

You've still got difficulty options, I think. And I know it's frowned upon, but you can turn permadeath off. These games are definitely less frustrating and time consuming with that turned off.

I'm also glad the relationship stuff is not in this one.

I'm wondering when the embargo lifts for this. Got the game preordered, just the standard edition.

Edit - Reviews are positive. Good.

Jesus, I never realised how ridiculous the hardcore fans of this series are. I suppose every fanbase is like this.

A lot of them absolutely despise Awakening and Fates, without actually realising that they are the reason we have Echoes and new games in the series. Bizarre.

:dread: Still tempted to pick it up. The GameXplain review has almost convinced me.

Aye, it's inevitable with a long series that various fans will have wildly different preferences. I do rememebr reading criticisms on the quality of Awakening's map design, though generally those folks were happy with Fates.

Though without meaning to talk about something of a strawman, I'd be less sympathetic to any complaints of the games becoming more accessible via different modes...

Still won't be getting at launch (haven't started Fates yet), but this has pretty much convinced me to get it eventually

So I've picked this up despite even not starting any of Fates :fp:
I'll give it a go this evening and hopefully make some decent progress

Hopefully my copy hasn't been stolen. The postman keeps shoving my parcels in random areas of my front porch as opposed to putting it the box.

Crikey the prologue is lengthy. It's also got some 3d move around explorey bits. Did Fates have that?

Well this is ridiculous, I'm on like the 3rd battle and there's a guy I can only damage 1 or 2 each time and he can kill my people in 2 go's. There's no weapons to buy or potions to obtain.

I thought it wasn't supposed to spike in difficulty until about halfway through the game. :dread:

Turns out I was supposed to create a mage but I didn't so I had to use my cleric once I'd leveled them up a bit

I'm enjoying this a lot more than Fates thanks to the minimal downtime between battles. I've played for nearly two hours and just reached the Southern Outpost. It seems that dungeons are the only aside to battles which works for me. I'm looking forward to diving back into it.

Do you mean minimal cut-scenes and story between battles?

If so I might pick Echoes up. The story parts are least interesting part in Fates for me, I just want to get to the fights.

No. You will have a support conversation about a useless maid dropping plates and you will damn well like it!

I didn't really like this stuff in Fates as well. The battles were really fun, but the downtime between those was pretty banal for the most part.

I meant the castle sections which broke up the action even more than just having the story cutscenes, which I did enjoy. Echoes doesn't dawdle with its story so you might still prefer it to Fates.

My only criticism so far is that the last dungeon that I did (Deliverance Hideout) felt quite repetitive as the battles used one of only two formations. On a better note, it looks like weapon degradation no longer exists which is good as I never really liked managing the inventories of large numbers of characters.

What difficulty are people playing on? I just left it at Normal difficulty casual and it's been a breeze for the first couple of hours.

Does the difficulty ramp up significantly?

I'm debating going with Normal Classic as the Turnwheel will get help things out if a character dies with permadeath on.

I'm playing on what ever the hardest was, was it normal or hard and classic. Turnwheel is very useful, once I discovered it existed and what it did.
It does feel like the hit ratio is off in this a bit. It seems like 60-70 hits will miss more often than not
