Finally finished Birthright. Completed all the Paralogues, recruited all the children. Overall I enjoyed the game a lot, mechanically and technically better than Awakening, but the characters, story and script were all a bit lacking in comparison. Saying that there are a lot of unanswered questions, which I hope Conquest and Revelation will address, and perhaps I'll think more fondly of those aspects of the game after playing them. Takumi and Ryoma were the absolute powerhouses all the way through for me. I LOVED the nod to Tharja with one of the children. The last two chapters being linked with no way to save between is more daunting than it actually was.
The last chapter was very similar Awakening's, finish it quickly or get swamped with reinforcements. I did it in one turn, after seeing what the Dragon Veins did next to the boss. Definitely worth the investment for me (40+ hours), even if I hadn't picked up the SE I would go and buy Conquest now after finishing Birthright. It's an interesting companion to Awakening, improving on many of the issues Awakening had, but sadly faltering in other areas that Awakening excelled.
Going to give it a break before starting Conquest, but looking forward to it.
