Just to let you all know that I sold my "spare" copy of Fire Emblem Fates SE. £170. Of course with P&P costs (as well as Amazon taking its cut), I'll only be receiving around £135 - but that's still pretty damn good for 2 minutes "work".

Edit: and for those who are about to complain... that was actually the lowest priced copy on the site.

It's a shame that Nintendo under-estimated the demand for the limited edition set. The low production run has created the market where scalpers can make money whilst some fans of the series either miss out or get ripped off.

Producing insufficient units to satiate demand is something that Nintendo has always done. It's what allows them to maintain their brand equity - regardless of the inherent quality of the title. It's why second hand prices of their games rarely ever go below RRP.

As an example... look at the original Wii. To all intents and purposes, Nintendo could have sold twice as many units when the machine was still in demand (for the first 3 years), but Nintendo throttled supply - hence the creation of a "black market".

You can't blame "scalpers" for this because Nintendo created the conditions for their existence.

I don't believe I did blame scalpers:

As you say, the conditions were put in place; and so scalpers can exist.

Sorry if I misquoted you.

Edit: but yeah, it's a bit f'd up if people are paying nearly 3x the normal amount for what is already an expensive game. Nintendo must have really, really gone out of their way to manufacture only a few copies.

Decided to go with Birthright on my first playthrough, the Ninja's and Samurai sold it to me. And playing Conquest first and then Birthright will probably feel like a step backwards. But I'm very curious to play Conquest too, because all the characters give creepy vibes. I downloaded that free map, will probably buy the map pack too, and unlike Awakening I won't leave it all until I've finished the game, and have them all be stupidly easy. Loving it so far, enemies teaming up adds a whole new layer of tactics. It feels a lot less straightforward than Awakening, even the early chapters are very interesting, Chapter 5 in particular puts the player in an interesting predicament. It's early days (up to chapter 9 or 10) but I've found no one I like as much as Lucina and Chrom yet. I do love all the Ninja's though. Clichéd as hell, like most of the cast so far, but badass. 8-)

The New 3DS XL's battery seems improved over my old XL, which I'm liking a lot!

I'm so incredibly jealous of you guys playing this. strawberry floating delivery still hasn't come so I'll likely have to wait until Monday to be able to play this, unless Royal Mail have lost the package.

The music in this is fantastic  The battlefield designs and attack animations are a big improvement from Awakening and the cutscenes are incredible. I haven't played much of it but I'm even more excited to play than I was before :toot:

Great to read that folk are enjoying this! Bar Chalkie diving straight into Conquest, are you other guys starting the adventure with Birthright?

If you were unable to grab a copy of the Limited Edition or you would love a Fates-branded New 3DS XL console, Nintendo Life is offering one of each in a competition.

I'm unsure whether to get a physical version of Conquest or just go digital. It is quite clear that it is integrated into the game and that it is probably better and cheaper to go digital, but a boxed copy would be nice.

I believe the download version is - once you have one of the main games - significantly cheaper, Squinty. [Checks...] Yep, it's £17.99 to download Conquest if you have a copy of Birthright. I like physical versions, too, but as there is no longer any kind of manual I'm not as fussed about it.

So if you just get either Birthright or Conquest, what actually happens when you get to the choice? Does it automatically pick the side of the copy you've purchased? I noticed there's an option to skip the opening chapters and head straight to the choice, which is going to be handy when I go on to do Conquest and Revelation after Birthright.

I assume the first side quest is a nod to Donnel's side quest in Awakening. I even levelled Mozu up just in case there was a similar recruitment requirement. He seems really weak, but I'm wondering if he's going to turn into a beast of a unit like Donnel did after levelling him.

It gets to the choice and displays an option for both, but you only get to choose the version you have purchased.

I found that kinda jarring, but I guess they wanted people to buy the Special Edition or the digital version of the opposite game. And it succeeded in my case.

Was away for the weekend so I only got a few hours in. Game seems to be right up there with Awakening. So many people being related to the Avatar dies seem to limit the potential wives for the character mind. I'm really interested in how Revelations story will play out. Like most I've started with Birthright.

That's the last time I buy anything from this company. :x
