It's a little bit confusing the options, but I'd go for Option 1. I'm really not excited about unlimited access to PS1 games, especially when the choice at the moment is so naff.

Various interviews have strongly hinted that cross game voice chat is coming in 2010- but for a premium? Xbox Silver members have cross game voice chat- they just cant play online. As for online music videos, we already have that with Vidzone.

If we are honest, I think that Microsoft have shown that mugs/gamers (including me) are willing to pay for a premium service. It's the direction the industry is going. I would pay but for something that is genuinely better, but that list doesn't represent many new features. Hopefully Sony have something else to show us.

If you want to compare services I see they sneaked in a three year warranty option which I get "free" with my Xbox 360. It's all swings and roundabouts.

They are both trying to justify ways of getting extra cash, just in slightly different ways.

I suppose you have a point.

The reason I prefer this is that they are genuinely adding 'perceived value' to the service rather than taking away things I used to be able to do for free.

Well I've been paying £40 a year for Xbox Live for 6 years now and if you compare what you got in 2003 compared to now I'd say it is better value for money today.

The end result is if you want everything on either service you're going to end up paying a fee.

True, they haven't taken away anything that was free back then, just added loads.

I remember my live starter kit in 2003.. you got bugger all really compared to now.

I got one of the pre-release boxes with all the faces on, I still have it somewhere. I had to wait a couple of months to actually use it though as my area didn't have broadband :fp:

Of course there will be. From what I have seen it's going to be about £50 per year which will give access to X number of downloads of games/movies/music, cloud storage(unlimited) etc.

so EVERY thing for £50 a year?

and.......

:fp: your supposed to be up/in when Postman Pat arrives.

Oh gooseberry fool :fp: Looks like I am off to the sorting office tomorrow

Oh Christopher, how about my "free" 3 year warranty? It doesn't matter which way you look at it they are both trying to get a revenue stream out of it. Sony STILL lose money on every PS3 sold, they can't really afford to give everything away for "free" when they make no money on the hardware ( and first party games don't sell ;) ).

Just wait until Activision have a seperate subscription for Modern Warfare.........

It's also a premium service on the 360.

At least I think it is, haven't tried to invite a Silver user to a cross game chat.

I don't think it is, but it's bloody difficult to organise given you can't message people with text as a silver member. Except on GFWL, so that's how I reply to xbox messages. :P

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Three year warranty because their product shouldn't legally be on store shelves :| Bargain :fp: Stop being a silly little bugger. The PSN Premium service does not include the cross game chat. PSN will actually be pretty good value for money depending on how often you pay for content from PSN at your PS3, PSP, PC or TV. It's fantastic value that I don't think has been done before. The cloud storage is going to be a strawberry floating revelation for consoles and being able to trial full price games etc is another great feature to add. £50 is the upper limit I heard or $69.99 in America(again we get bummed  ). I've heard something quite similar is coming from Nintendo :shifty:

Yeah it's bloody ridiculous. Microsoft tried to charge for this on PC, but Steam has proper AIM/MSN style instant messaging for free rather than the email like service on Live, so they got laughed at and told to come back when they were serious.

Unlike the PS3, where you get a different coloured light of death and a 1 year warranty with a £128 repair bill

It's something you get for "free" on one and not on another, gamesTM hint heavily this month that the Gold/Silver model is changing also, maybe you'll opt in and out of services of your choice rather than being forced to take a "package" though.

I really like GFW Live these days. But Steam is the industry standard on how to handle online gaming and community. PS3 has a instant message chat room feature and free text messages. And that is the one people mock :fp:
