What was the first game that you played and absolutely adored? The game that made you fall in love with gaming?

Mine wasn’t the first one I ever played but was probably my favourite game for about 5 years. I first played Ghostbusters on an Amstrad at a friends house and after that begged my parents for a computer for Christmas. My parents delivered with a Commodore 64 and a copy of the Ghostbusters game and I haven’t stopped gaming since.

Ghostbusters was an astonishingly good game in young Moggy’s opinion. I loved the movies and playing the game made me feel like I was actually a Ghostbuster!

There were many games after it that I adored and there are definitely better games out there, but nothing will ever beat the nostalgia I feel when I think back to that wonderful Christmas of Ghostbusting.

I remember playing that at my uncle's house, on his Speccy.

Mine was definitely Super Mario Bros. The music, graphics and gameplay were all in advance of anything I'd seen. I think it still stands up pretty well (though not as well as SMB3, obviously). For a tiny 8-bit game, it's amazing.

Super Mario 64 - the first game I just couldn't stop playing and loved every single minute of it.

Tough to say, I remember playing games on my 2600 but theres not one game that stands out, the earliest memory of a game that I was seriously into is probably Mega Man 2 on the NES. I loved Super Mario Bros as well obviously but when I think back I have more memories of playing and trying to beat Mega Man than I do Super Mario so Ill go with that.

I played that Ghostbusters game too and it ties into what I'm going to say.

I probably played a few different games when I was little kid, on friends machines, and whether it was because I was too young or they were just a bit hard to understand (I only remember that first Ghostbusters screen - didn't know what you had to do) while I liked the idea of games it wasn't until a friend brought his NES round with Super Mario Bros 2 that I played I game I actually had an idea of how to play/progress in and so that is why that's the first game I loved.

I'd probably played a large amount of games by the time I played this but they all pale in comparison when looking back.

This game just absolutely blew me away. I guess it's difficult to quantify now but when the bulk of your gaming had been 2d maze type games or very simple platformers and then something comes along that offers you the entire galaxy and the freedom to go exactly where you want. You can go down the route of trader, concentrate on mining, go combat heavy or even become a pirate. And it's incredible that Elite manages to do all that stuff in only 48k. It is virtually perfect, it's only downside was this mummy strawberry floater.

Thankfully though one of the gaming mags printed some code that would bypass it (it also had other cheats included but I never used them :shifty: )

Ooh... this is difficult! My first gaming was on an Atari VCS but I didn't actually own one myself; I played at a friend's house and enjoyed Combat and Adventure. In terms of a game that was mine, I'd probably select The Perils of Willy on the Commodore Vic-20. It was around the time that Jet Set Willy was incredibly popular on the Spectrum and C64 and I was thrilled when Software Projects released a version for the Vic. I really loved playing it and I'd say that it was the first videogame that I became addicted to.

I learnt the game off by heart and managed to complete the (IIRC) 32 levels (screens) in something like two-and-a-half hours. I have no idea how I managed to listen to the five-second looping soundtrack for that long  .

Having completed it, I noticed that I had beaten the high score published in Personal Computer Games magazine and so I sent off my own score. I was so excited that I would get my score and name printed! But... the magazine ceased publishing the next month :fp:  ( ). Of course, I have now long got over it and it no longer affects me.

( :x ...   ).

Anyway, here it is in all it's glory:

The first game I loved would be the first game I played - Duck Hunt.

But the first game I truly /adored/ would probably be Ocarina of Time.

There are a good number of loved games between the two, like Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers and Banjo-Kazooie (which I believe we had before OoT)

Three of my very favorite childhood games on one cart, the very first proper videogame I ever had. I honestly don't think I could have had a better introduction to videogames than this beauty.

I feel old when folk talk about Sonic being their first videogame. No wonder there is so much moaning about resolution and frame rates nowdays... people are just not familiar with playing on a system that had a screen width of twenty characters  .

Terrific thread; I love reading the varied memories... old and new :toot: .

Although I played a few games on my dad's ZX Spectrum when I was really young, the first I really loved was Sierra's Mixed Up Fairytales on PC, the first game that was ever really mine.

Image

It was a fantastic introduction to adventure games with point and click mechanics not dissimilar to the SCUMM engine games, it looked and sounded fantastic for the time and actually shared some traits of modern RPG's. You could create a character at the start and you could approach the game's 'missions' in any order you wanted, making it quite open ended. The premise of the game was essentially to help different fairy tale characters by fixing their fairy tales as something had gone wrong. I absolutely loved it and must have played it from beginning to end at least a dozen times. My love for this game led to me discovering the likes of Kings Quest, Monkey Island and Full Throttle, all of which are amongst my favourite ever games.

For me it has to be Bart Simpson vs the space mutants on the NES

I had lots of games on the C64 and Atari 2600 but was a little too young to appreciate them.

Super Mario Bros 3 - remastered for Super Mario All-Stars on the SNES. I was maybe 5 when I got to play it for the first time, and I never looked back.
