PC: Decades of PC gaming and emulation make this an easy choice.
Wii U: The best library of exclusive titles in the current generation and support for Wii and GameCube games, if I need it.
New 3DS XL: Support for the entire 3DS library, in addition to running DS games, gives this handheld a lot of potential.
Xbox 360: Most titles that I enjoy can be covered by the above three machines in one way or another but the 360 was home to some great titles including Tales of Vesperia and Perfect Dark HD.
PS3: Like the 360, a lot of this console's library is done better on PC but some games, like Demon's Souls and Tales of Xillia, can only be found here.

Plenty of interesting choices so far, guys!

I'm surprised that no-one has specifically mentioned the SNES so far. Maybe it's because, as Seven suggested, people would play on PC via emulation? Personally I'm not a huge fan of emulation as I enjoy using original hardware, but I can see the attraction.

In general, the more recent machines appear to be more popular than older kit. I guess that this could be explained by the more populous 20s and 30s age groups in GRcade. Nostalgia can be a big factor in these choices; I chose the C64 based on memories rather than recent use. Even so, I'm certain that the games would keep me interested.

Some of the lists and thoughts have made me want to get back to a few older games :-).

I've never seen that one before. Looks simple but I think I would have enjoyed it. Though *obviously* it isn't a patch on BMX Flyer and its superior use of colours. :P

I used to have to practically prise it out of my nans hands, she bloody loved it (there's something brilliant about watching your grandparents attempting to play videogames).

It's good to see a couple of older systems get a mention :-). How come you chose the 48k and 128k variants, Peter? There's nothing wrong with that - I'm just interested!

They both had some fantastic games and were different enough that I felt both merited a spot. I'm a bit sad I didn't choose the Dreamcast though but my choices are pretty solid.

ive owned pretty much every games system and can easily pick the following as my systems to own in the eras they were used.

Atari 400/800.
Amiga 500/1200.
PC 486dx through to now.
Sinclair Spectrum 48k.
Xbox 360.

It's the 32X bling that does it :D.

A new challenger! I never owned one, but I understand that they were home to some excellent ports of Atari's early hits.

The 360 seems pretty popular so far. It perhaps hits the sweet spot of a great game library; quality, quantity and diversity.

Why would you choose the 48k over the 128k? Do you like dead flesh keyboards?
