Made one of my favourite 'fast' foods last night. It's nicked from a recipe book, but it's lush.

Basically, it's a pesto made of peas, mint, toasted pine nuts, garlic, olive oil and parmesan cheese, blitzed in the food processor, then mixed with spaghetti and a bit of pasta water.

Parmesan cheese on top to serve. It's ridiculously good for something that takes 10 minutes.

Looks like this:

Yeah, mint and peas is an awesome combination. I'm not a huge pea fan on their own, but with mint they are...mint. Mint and broad beans too is lush. I like making that with lemon juice, a bit of Parmesan, blitzing up to a puree and spreading on grilled bread with garlic on it. Yum.

What the strawberry float have Sainsbury's done to their Taste The Difference lasagne? Talk about strawberry floating up the recipe. "New and Improved" it says on the box. What it should have is a little Asterisk beside it & on the back of the box a photo of Jim Royle going "My Arse".

Things like "New recipe" or "Improved taste!" only ever mean that they've found a way to make it cheaper.
Winds me up.

Sainsburys Taste The Difference range isn't on good terms with me at the moment.. I'll find a picture of the pie i got the other week.. one sec..

Look at this gooseberry fool - felt really light when i took it out the box, so I sliced it in half.. WHERE'S THE FILLING!?

I have defrosted a chicken breast for dinner, but not sure what to have. I was going to make a curry but my gf whinged and said "let's have one Sundaaaaaaaaaay".

I'm drawing a blank which is rare. Ingredients are relatively low so I need to grab something from Lidl, but not sure what cuisine I'm in the mood for.

That pie  :fp:

Then again that's how I feel whenever I open a bag of Walkers Sensations.

That happened to me as well! It's a very nice pie too, but that's unacceptable.

The packaging on their new TTD curries leave a lot to be desired as well. Nice as they are, they've removed the segmentation in the box...which is a shambles when trying to cook it.

Thankfully Sainsbury's have a no quibble returns policy...even if you've eaten it. In my mind that brand has always been competing with the likes of Waitrose - certainly on price - so anything less than impeccable standards and it's going back. I don't give a gooseberry fool if I have to be 'that customer', that horrible lasagne cost me £6.

They do indeed. Should be a message on the back of the box actually.

Just been on the Sainsbury's website to see some customer reviews of the lasagne...glad to see other people think it's a load of gooseberry fool too.

You think that's high? You should see the price of the equivalent Heston from Waitrose Lasagne. It's £10.

Even Charlie Bigham is £7.

Noticed Sainsbury's have dropped their price to £5.50. Well there goes the ingredient budget by 50p.

I'd say £6 for lasagne is pretty high, but I can't I've ever got it from a shop.

Never had any of the Heston products as far as I'm aware. I fancied getting the burgers but thought strawberry float it. Might as well make my own.

I'm sure this is the case elsewhere too, but if you have a Waitrose near you and like Bran Flakes you really need to be buying Essential Waitrose 750g (£1.46) over Kellogg's (£2.90). They're identical. I don't mean similar either, I actually mean the same bloody thing. Seeing as Kelloog's like to say they don't make cereal for anybody else, I'm guessing Waitrose have just got the recipe spot on. I've tried Sainsbury's version before and while acceptable taste quite different.

Ok, I've got a reasonably simple baking question about this Orange Rice Cake.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/orange_rice_cake_29449
I don't have any Vanilla pods so is it possible to just use a bit of Vanilla extract and if so how much would I need?

Extract / essence varies greatly from brand to brand, so it's a hard question to answer. I'd just keep adding it bit by bit until you can smell it in the mixture.

Got a 1kg lump of brisket in the oven at 130 degrees.
Give it 4 or 5 hours and I'll have a soft block of meat flavoured butter! Love it!

Waitrose Essential raspberry doughnuts are complete crap. Worst jam doughnuts I've ever had actually. So if you see them on the shelf leave them there.

£6 for lasagne  and I thought those Lasagne kits were a joke.

It's not even that difficult to make.
