In the same way as Blackburn if they in anyway get their gooseberry fool together they will go straight back up. I thought Blackburn would need time but they clearly didn't. The gap between Championship and League One is the biggest to bridge in English football - and so relegated teams will always tend to do quite well.

With what though? They'll still have Jack Rodwell on the books for instance who is meant to be on 60 or 70 grand a week which isn't far off the average wage bill of most league one clubs. Will Short continue to bankroll or will he just say strawberry float it and let them go into administration?

Yet they went on a cup run and genuinely gave Man City a scare. When you've got a quality manager, especially in a league and demanding and challenging as the Championship you've got to stick with them and hope they come good. Unless they get you relegated, like the chicken men.

You are mixing up two completely different seasons.

2016/17 – Lee Johnson led the club to a club record number of consecutive defeats and the club slid into the relegation zone. Fans called for his head. Results towards the end of the season did turn around and the club was saved from relegation.

2017/18 – Lee Johnson led the club to the semi-finals of the League Cup and at one point up to second place in the Championship. Fans were not calling for his head.

However, since the Wolves game, the club has been on an appalling run, Johnson is safe at the moment due to the extraordinary first half of the season, but fans are far from convinced that he is a quality manager – a one off cup run and half a season of good results doesn’t make somebody untouchable, especially when they hold the club record for consecutive defeats.
