Football Manager.com wrote:LONDON (August 11th, 2011) – Sports Interactive Ltd. & SEGA® Europe Ltd. today unveiled the latest version of their successful football management simulation series, Football Manager™ 2012. Planned to be in stores before Christmas, Football Manager 2012 will once again allow you to take charge of your favourite football team and put your managerial skills to the test.

The award-winning Football Manager series has now sold in excess of 7 million copies worldwide and has topped the UK and many European PC charts for the last seven years, with over 108 weeks at no.1 in the UK to date.

“We’re delighted to finally be able to start talking about Football Manager 2012” said Miles Jacobson, Studio Director at Sports Interactive. “It’s another year of evolution, with some revolution thrown in for good measure so we’re pretty sure our dedicated communities, and hopefully lots of new people too, get to play and enjoy the game when it’s released later in the year.”

Counting over 800 new features, not including changes to the rules of the games 50+ leagues, Football Manager 2012 promises to be the most realistic, immersive and playable football management simulation ever for any fan who has ever dreamed of making the big decisions, both on and off the field.

Key new & improved features for Football Manager 2012:

Transfers & Contracts – significant changes to the transfer and contract systems, including loyalty bonuses, better implementation of amateur and youth contracts, an improved transfer centre and the ability to lock areas of the contract negotiation when you aren't prepared to budge. This helps you to manage your budgets and gives you flexibility in what you offer money hungry players, or agents, as incentives.

Scouting improvements – using several real life scouting reports, a new in-game report has been devised which includes squad analysis, tactics information and information about goals scored and conceded alongside lots of other scouting improvements, giving you all the information you need to prepare before kick-off and throughout the season.

3D Match Improvements – new animations, a whole new crowd system, improved weather system, more stadiums, plus two brand new cameras - "Behind Goal" and "Director Cam" as well as all other camera angles being reversible - meaning you can watch and analyse every aspect of every game.

Manage Anywhere, Anytime – the ability to add or take away playable nations in your saved game as often as you want. Manage in that country at the start of the next season- meaning you don’t have to stay in the nations which are chosen by you to be playable at the start of your career.

Tone – a whole new level has been added to team talks and conversations, with the new tone system, which allows you to specify the way you want to say things – be as cool as a cucumber by saying things calmly or throw tea cups around by saying things with passion. There are 6 different tones to choose from with specific comments per tone.

Intelligent Interface – a new adaptive layout system, which means the higher your screen resolution, the more info is easily at your fingertips. The new interface also contains new filters, customisable columns, a new tactics screen, and lots of new overview screens.

Brand New Tutorial – standing separate from the main game, a mode to help new players find their way around the game easily, whilst also offering tips to experienced managers on how to get the most out of the game, as well as a new in-game “how to” system.

On top of these key innovations, there are lots of areas of the game that have had huge improvements, such as the media system, press conferences, the youth system, newgens, the social networking options, friendlies, international management and many more which will be detailed in a series of video blogs over the coming months, alongside more information about Football Manager 2012.

THE (GREAT) GRCADE ENGLAND EURO 2012 CHALLENGE

The challenge

The ultimate test of armchair football management skills, you must guide perennial bottle merchants England to European Championship glory. Failing that as close as you can get.

The rules

The kicker - by popular demand, your squad of battling heroes must be comprised of players which are not in Roy Hodgson's real life England squad. I'm taking this to be the provisional 23 man squad announced this week, which includes the following:

Goalkeepers - Joe Hart, Robert Green, John Ruddy.

Defenders - Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Joleon Lescott, John Terry.

Midfielders - Gareth Barry, Stewart Downing, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young.

Strikers - Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck.

This does not include the standby players, so Jack Butland fans may rejoice. The other standby players are Phil Jagielka, Jordan Henderson, Adam Johnson and Daniel Sturridge.

Scoring

Throughout the tournament, points are scored as follows:

Win (90 minutes) = 10 points
Win (Extra Time) = 7 points
Win (Penalties) = 5 points
Draw = 3 points
Goal = 1 point
Red Card = -2 points

Proof of scoring is required of course, and in the interests of transparency each entrant must on the deadline date (see below) post in this thread (in a spoiler box to save space natch) screen grabs of:

a) The squad screen (to check for any sneaky disallowed squad picks)
b) Full time match summary screens for each match played in the tournament
c) The main England squad 'fixtures' screen

Scores will be tallied using the above system on/around the deadline date (see below). In the event of a tie, goal difference will be calculated on the basis of the evidence produced to determine a winner. If for some reason there is still a tie, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

The Prize

Eternal bragging rights, and (probably) the right to walk around in public proclaiming yourself to be a better football manager than Roy Hodgson. Unless someone wants to make a sig up or something.

Duration

The challenge starts right now, and ends at midnight on Thursday 7th June 2012, the day before the tournament starts proper. Screen grabs may be submitted before this date, but you should probably repost them around that date to make it easier to find them.

The Save

Grab the save here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?7y2zcmoa6wri7nt

Instructions:

* Download the file and put it in the folder where your FM save games are stored (usually in My Documents somewhere if you are on a Windows machine)
* Load the game, and click on Add Manager in the top right hand corner, selecting England
* The game starts the day before the required selection of the squad for the tournament
* There are pre-tournament friendlies already arranged against France, Norway and Belgium. These do not count in any way towards the challenge scoring
* The group England are in consists of England, Poland, Romania and Sweden

So good luck chaps, and may the best fake football manager win. Just hope you aren't gooseberry fool enough to justify a virtual one of these bad boys:

FM2012 Video Blog - Conversation Tones

FM2012 Video Blog - Tactics

FM2012 Video Blog - Team Talks

Looks really good, think the new 'Tone' system should add a lot. Felt like the team-talks and player-conversations have been a bit limited and unrealistic and adding the tones should give scope for a lot more options in this area. Also didn't realise it was out so soon. Can't wait  I'm still playing FM2011 a year on and this is looking even better.

Since it's strictly Steamworks this year, don't be surprised if the Strawberry demo via Steam is the only version.

 I never even entertain it as I know I'd cave in. Still, I always get my moneys worth. The problem with FM is that it means any other games get neglected, purely because I can enjoy it whilst doing other things instead of having to turn everything off to play it.

Apparently Demo should be coming this Friday

Probably going to give it a miss this year, FM2011 was broken in some pretty fundamental areas.

Really? What did you find so broken about it? I've been playing it frequently for 12 months and not found anything really broken about it.

Managerial changes make no sense 90% of the time (especially in the lower leagues), 33 year old players refuse to take any kind of wage drop despite a change of squad status, the home-grown status of a few players didn't count when registering them, the game doesn't think you might want to hire two coaches at once when putting out a job advertisement. That kind of thing.

The match gameplay itself seemed fine though, better than the previous years' games, although the new pre-match focus thing took the illusion away a little.

Is it possible to turn of all the extra crap they've added (media gooseberry fool and a lot of the more complex training) and just get back to the basics of buying and selling players, picking a team and choosing with decent formation and tactics?
I'd like to buy this for me and a friend of mine but he has a laptop and I have no idea if this will work as this has always been rather a killer for slowdown on older kit.

I didn't find any of those really so game-breaking, as minor irritations but it all depends what club you play really. I remember the home-grown status one did annoy me in my Notts Forest game because it meant having to select a few really rubbish youth players to meet CL quotas. I found the match gameplay and the general running of transfers, scouting to be vastly improved though and thought the board interaction was one of the best additions they've made in years.

Whilst you can't turn it off as such you do have the option to get your assistant and coaches to handle all those things, so basically if you don't want to do them then they will do them for you. Lets you be as involved as much or as little as you want really. I rarely deal with the match-preparation tactics they added last year and press conferences, I let my assistant manager do those so I'm largely dealing with transfers and team selection/tactics.

I run it on my laptop and it works fine, as long as it has a reasonably big amount of RAM and a good size hard-drive you should be fine. You can really edit the size of databases (how many players, clubs etc. available) to make it flexible to different specifications, and there's no need to use things like the 3D match engine so you should find you can run a perfectly playable version of it on most machines.

At least once a season you'll have a manager in charge of a team that's in a title race leave to join one that's mid-table because of the club's pre-season reputation. It's stupid.

I saw Man City sack a guy then somehow convince the man in charge of runaway league leaders Chelsea to join them in 10th. Chelsea then hire the guy City sacked (manager swapping happens far too often) and go on to an easy league win.

Who's in charge of a club at any time is a huge part of Football Manager.

Really, that never happened in any of my games, all the sacking and hiring decisions that happened have been fairly realistic. :? That said I don't think the situation you propose is entirely unrealistic, clubs reputation will always play a big part in luring in big managers, even if the team may be struggling at the time. Its not like the Chelsea manager left to join Blackburn Rovers or something.

I did the opposite in 2010. I was 3 games away from the end of the season as Blackburn manager with a 2 point lead at the top. Left them to join Chelsea who where just about to fall out of the UEFA cup position.

Blackburn lost the title too Arsenal and I ended up in UEFA cup - spent 8 years with Chelsea winning everything from there 8-)
