There was an incident between Long at a Palace game a few seasons back, and as football fans have long memories it's always referenced when he rolls into town... He takes the stick well though...

I don't think there's a player out there atm who can say they haven't dived/simulated, though is it because half the time the referee isn't giving the blatant fouls against the player so they feel like they have to be ott? Whilst this is certainly a positive thing, it shouldn't be ignored how AWFUL referees have been in recent years...

The main concern here is will it go the same way as the whole "dissenting players will be booked" thing they brought in last season?

Yeah i think the biggest issues are the refs. There are some players who will get a good kicking or tripped but they balance themselves and stay up but no foul is given. Most then find if they go down they get a foul. You see it so often when you know a player could stay up but they decide to stumble a bit and then hit the ground . There are though some who just drop as soon as they are tapped lightly on a frequent basis, those players can bugger off.

Said for a while now we needed retrospective bans for players who dive. I'd also like to see cards rescinded for players who haven't committed a foul and their opponent has deceived the ref into believing there was contact.

Credit where it's due, retrospective action against diving is a brilliant development.

So is Ashley Young starting the season with a 33 game ban then?

Good point, this should 100% happen automatically if a player is found guilty of diving.

Classic Mourinho asking but the thing is, he's wrong about the game not mattering to Palace. They can finish anywhere from 11th to 17th on Sunday, meaning, at £2m a place, their prize money can swing by upto £12m. Not excactly small change.

Can't we just give Palace the 2 mil and have the game on Saturday?

What about 4 million and Friday? 4 million is referred to as 'half a Bebe' by the board.

Big Sam has said he would have been happy playing the game on Saturday and said the game would have been moved in any other country.

And I'm sure Palace wouldn't mind playing first because let's face it the above isn't exactly a relegation battle.

Not just the dissenting rule. The whole grabbing players in the box where we had several penalties on the first days and then disappeared.

Also I'm not excusing diving. But if players try to stay on their feet then they rarely get anything. I think it was Coutinho against Palace where he dribbled past several players, yet was kicked and stayed on his feet. But got no penalty. If referees start giving penalties for those sort of incidents then players may not over exaggerate contact.

Is no one watching the Leicester v spurs game? 6-1 to spurs, Kane has four goals. Great game.

Harry Kane has one goal every 94 mins this season in the league. That's impressive. Hope he gets at least one in the last game to at least keep that stat.

Kane is ahead of lukaku now. Hull next so if he scores few more that is 2 seasons with the golden boot. Not bad for a one season wonder

He's certainly proved all of his critics wrong.

I think he could go on and break Shearer's PL goal scoring record if he stays in this league.

Haven't been in here for a while, a few points...

1) Are people still calling Kane a one-season wonder? :fp: He's clearly an excellent player.

2) Kelvin MacKenzie seems like a banana split of the highest order, but anybody crying racism about his Ross Barkley comments are misguided. Presumably anybody who's ever said that Bale looks like a monkey have thoroughly researched his family history to make sure he has no black ancestors, otherwise they're open to the same criticism.

3) I'm sure I read a stat yesterday saying that you could take away all of Lukaku's goals this season and Everton would still be in the same league position. Pretty interesting.

4) This proposed retrospective ban on diving is tackling the right problem, but in the wrong way. It would still mean that teams benefit from cheating through penalties, opposition players being sent off, etc, which is the main goal. Delaying the punishment until after the event is no good. If you dive against one of the top teams, get a penalty, and that gives you a win, knowing you might face a two-game ban against two relegation-threatened teams, are you going to take the risk? Probably, and it would probably be seen as being worth it. Better to have a video-referee to address all difficult decisions and provide live feedback/consequences.
