Too be honest I was just messing around. I don’t really have an opinion on this matter as I can see both sides of the argument. I originally thought everyone was just joking.

Whilst the reaction is hilariously over the top considering City won the league months ago, I have to say I'm not a fan of the name changes in general. There have been instances in the past where the title has changed to comment on a goal someone scored. This is then not changed back for weeks.

its not them winning the league, its the deduction that Man Utd had lost to West Brom - i was looking forwards to that being a surprise when i watched the highlights later that evening as it wasnt very likely.

Seriously though, if you don't want something spoiled, turn your strawberry floating phone off.

i have match notifications (from google) turned off on my phone for this very reason

jawafour wrote:Seems a wee bit harsh on Photek, to be honest. I can understand that Faceman had planned to watch the highlights but most news media posted the story on the front page of their websites; it's the culmination of the Premier League football season and it doesn't feel like too much of a shock to announce the winning team once it becomes known.

i dont go on sports/news websites when i dont want a result spoiled - thats quite obvious

Return_of_the_STAR wrote:I can’t believe this is real. Maybe we should change the thread title of the us politics thread as well. I now know that trump is like an evil forest gump. I haven’t watched forest gump yet so now so it’s ruined the film for me as I now know that hank dresses up like an orangutan with a blonde wig on and goes around sleeping with prostitutes, paying them millions of dollars but does it with a smile on his face as he’s not evil.

yeah the difference is there isnt a politics highlight show where the result of Trump's daily actions is summarised

im struggling to see why this is so difficult for some people to understand

I can understand where you’re coming from and I don’t think it’s an unreasonable request going forward but your reaction was ridiculously over the top when Photek was just doing something that has been done for years with the Football Thread.

I do get your point, Faceman - and most of the time I'd agree with you in terms of not putting winners names in the thread title on a match-by-match basis - but I feel that, as the culmination of the Premier League, noting the winners wasn't too much of a bad thing.

Fake edit: Yeah, I'm consolidating my "middle ground" approach on every argument  . Those fence splinters etc :datass: .

I miss when we had witty titles based on what was happening in the wider world of football :(

Villa must be promoted now so Glowy can take over ownership!

No fun allowed, it's more a cheap solution to assuage complaints and I admit that. I just don't see locking the thread title detracting from anyone.

We need more threads on things like "TV", "The News" and "The Dictionary" with thread title updates on the latest developments.

Let's have 10 threads covering the top 10 grcade subjects and just update the thread titles with essential information, then switch off the Reply button and become a news site.

As that's exactly what this forum looks like to the outsider on some occasions, a passive non-interactive source of news delivered by your crowd sourced Internet friends. I think it's something we should heavily discourage but not everyone agrees and so I don't do that.

If anyone feels victimised for this, please PM me. Photek already has. It's probably the only moderating I've done in the past 6 months. As always I'll probably reverse it like the spineless jelly I am (I have actually broken my spine though so please no jokes about that :( )

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

If you wanted to avoid a football result that has resulted in the league being won. Then the onus is on you to do so.

On the tv, news, social media it would be a headline. You could have gone in the chat thread and someone could have mentioned it.
If you actually watch MOTD without knowing particular results the onus is on you to avoid any spoilers. Not the people on a forum.

Bad result against Burnley for us, will take an absolute Miracle for us to get 7th now, all but over. Good luck to them in the Europa league there was a time when they couldn't win for love nor money that I thought we'd catch them easily but 5 wins on the bounce is impressive and have to say they deserve it. Season over, bring on the World Cup and more bitter disappointment.

Is it true that Man City won league? I've only just found out today, so it was a great surprise.

Id like to volunteer as the creator of the football thread for the new season.
Anyone but glowy is fine by me, though.
