Sorry for finding some scarce positives in a 'gooseberry fool England team' holding Neymar Eleven to a draw, friendly or not.

Referencing Ireland's defeat doesn't change the argument that England will be awful next summer. Unless something is different in this team that wasn't in the last Euro's, the World Cup, the previous Euro's etc. etc. for about 20years.

Still doing better than Ireland. :toot:

He is well strawberry floated if they get a decent draw for the tournament and people start going hyper altogether.

What hype? Surely no-one believes that this team can win the World Cup?

Doesn't mean people don't think the team maybe capable of a surprise and go a bit further than people expect. At the end of the day its knockout football.

There was a slight change in tone for the coverage of the Brazil game, in print at least.

Right now, I think most people would be happy enough with this England side if they made the quarter finals and went out to someone decent like Germany or Argentina (I know their form isn't great but their attacking options are ridonkulous). A softish draw and that'll change to the quarter finals being the minimum people expect and a successful tournament being classed as a semi final appearance.

There's a lot to be excited about in that England team. Sterling, Alli and Kane are top class players that can all be accommodated in a coherent system which wasn't the case when England had Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard all getting in each others way. I've no issue or beef with anyone* getting excited about their teams potential as following football is normally an exercise in constant disappointment.

*Excluding those twats in the England band. Those guys can go die in a fire.

Of course, England will limp to the last sixteen and lose to a smaller nation on penalties, but what's the point in having a world cup if you can't get excited about the potential?

Last 16? I’m not really positive about that especially after seeing the seedings. There’s a lot of teams in pot 1 and 3 that could cause us problems. The only positive is we avoid Spain, Croatia and Uruguay. The only team in pot 1 that we may have a chance of beating is the team that is hosting the tournament and we couldn’t beat them in the Euros.

We struggle against big teams. But we hardly brilliant against the smaller teams.

Also I still remember a lot of people hyping us up before the Euros after beating Germany away in a friendly.

I don’t really see the positives. We struggle to score and with that defence I don’t see us keeping many clean sheets in competitive matches. The centre midfield is very weak. Someone mentioned they don’t miss the days of Gerrard/Lampard debate. But at the moment we miss a player like Gerrard.

It’s happening, isn’t it? We’re going to win the World Cup.

I literally can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not sans the last line.

How is anything in that first paragraph unreasonable? I mean...

... I pretty much feel like this too! But it doesn’t mean I can’t feel that the performances considering the personnel on the pitch were reasonably decent.

You seem to be getting annoyed at England fans on here for not being incredibly negative about our team. Which must feel weird and unfamiliar, I guess.

That first sentence should say I feel a bit sorry for Southgate. Not sure why I couldn't bring myself to say it earlier.

I'm not annoyed at any of the England fans on here for being excited by England. I was just starting to enjoy the lack of hype, or pashun as Mafro would call it, that this current incarnation of the team was experiencing. It was refreshing.

If they do find a way of following the example of previous teams and get knocked out in an hilarious manner then naturally enough I'll laugh at them. But I think everyone will, even Glowy.

Sorry, I meant Photek. I was just quoting your post because I agreed with what you’d said.

Balls deep usually means a really strong attraction.

The good news for Photek is that England has lots of 1 to 2 inch deep holes for him to insert himself balls deep into.

Dunno what the hell Southgate is playing at there. It's just a friendly.
