(I totally thought it was a red before seeing the replay)
Yellow at best.
Baffling thing is in the last round Power carried out an even worse tackle on Obiang, which has led to Obiang being out for the season. He wasn't even booked. This is why people get pissed off with officials.
Because a different person did a different thing in a different game? What do you expect? Total consistency is impossible.
That said, that was a soft red.
But that's the problem, there isn't any between officials. For example was the Delph tackle a clearer red than the challenge that wiped Sane out in the last round? Yet one was a red and one a yellow. There are too many times where officials contradict one another with the decisions they make, often for fouls or decisions that are very simple. Doesn't help that they continue to keep officials in the top league who are clearly out of their depth like Taylor and Madley.
To be fair you can make a case about most officials being out of their dept. Martin Atkinson is supposed to one of the leading refs and he is one of the worst. Then you have Mike Dean who has to make the game about him. Then you have the fat one, I can’t remember his name but he reffed Liverpool vs Spurs recently. Then you have the likes of Pawson who recently gave a penalty for shove in a Merseyside Derby and I seen far blatant shoves in matches he has reffed since then which has resulted in no penalties.
There is no consistency what so ever. Whenever something gets implemented at the start of the season after the fourth game it is forgotten. I remember a few seasons back when quite a few penalties were given for holding shirts in the penalty box during corners. Then suddenly it reverted back to normal.
