With that said, he's worded it like a banana split.

If Spurs get 2 or three players deservedly sent off, surely the focus is still on their ill discipline though?

It's only controversial, and his fault, if he get's the decisions wrong. So basically he was a coward.

It also doesn't account for the possibility of Spurs actually winning the game. Obviously the chances are much greater of that happening with 11 on the pitch, if the only reason the referee didn't give any red cards was to avoid blame for the result then he's not done his job fairly. I don't want referees making decisions based on what they think the reaction will be afterwards.

Or players getting seriously injured as the game descends into chaos because you didn't draw a line with a red card.

It's all a moot point ultimately though - Clattenburg has strawberry floated off to his high paying job in Saudi Arabia so can say what he wants with impunity and Spurs have returned to their top six-ish form and strawberry float my fantasy team every week.

Won't he want to referee at the World Cup next year though? I can't imagine this will help his chances.

Palace looking to upgrade part of Selhurst Park in a similar vein of when Liverpool did their Main Stand up...

Looks pretty swish, hopefully one day the rest of the ground can be updated (since this barely affects the Away End)...

Almost certainly the best stadium in the Championship.

I really enjoyed (and not because it was one of only two games we've won) going to Selhurst Park this season. Proper old school-view blocked by a pillar-smells-funny-falling apart a little-ground. I mean that in a good way too. Many modern stadiums lack any real character.

He isn't refereeing anymore though is he? He is the head of the Saudi referees association or something like that?

Irrespective, the fact that he's not refereeing in England would presumably mean he can't be the English delegate to the World Cup.

Well, a quarter of it at least

Besides, that'll be the 'London' Stadium ;)

There's a lot to be said for character at a ground I think - I've been to some howling grounds that were great fun, and some fantastic grounds that were just boring and sterile.

I was under the impression that FIFA selected referees from around the world rather than every country going nominate one. Regardless though, I thought he was reffing Saudia Arabia, didn't realise he was in a different role.

Non non-league teams to cheer for this time around (pending a couple that have replays) means I really don't care about the cup this year :(
