Good. Ridiculous decision in the first place especially considering Klopp and Conte get to storm about like banana splits and get praised for it because PASHUN.

Just realised there's another international break after this weekend, isn't there?

Interesting piece for Ken Early in the Irish Times on Liverpools defence.

https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/english-soccer/ken-early-strong-case-for-the-defence-of-jurgen-klopp-s-vision-1.3232398

Liverpool and Man City have had the most shots on goal and the fewest shots against them. He doesn't say Liverpool's defence is good at all but he points out that the way Liverpool play, when they do concede a chance it's usually inside the box and when they beat a team they don't get the credit really, its usually that whatever team they beat didn't show up.

That’s because Klopp, like Pep Guardiola, is one of those system managers who believes that the best way to defend is to play the game in the other team’s half, far away from your goal. And their systems appear to work, because City and Liverpool are also the two teams who have had most shots on their opponents’ goals.
And yet these system managers seldom get any credit for good defending. When the system works it means the other team has barely had a sight of goal; it just looks like they’ve played badly. Nobody applauds the tackles and saves you don’t need to make.

Good result and a wee clean sheet bonus for me for Shane *spits* Duffy as well.

Pulling for Brighton to establish themselves in the league this season!

I have to say that was a shocking decision, in the box, clearly visible, and Sanchez has his shirt nearly ripped off hi- oh wait, sorry, nobody cares about that do they...

I'll have a look at their article. Does it mention that their system's weakness is a well drilled defence especially when it is specifically targeted with non purist attacked designed to circumvent the high press.

Think Burnley against Liverpool.

Or going way back - Chelsea and Inter's success at frustrating that style of play.

Liverpool are fantastic going forward but against a well drilled defence - thst can then transfer itself to counter attack - they are vulnerable.

So are City but with a much less softer centre.

You can't just start praising a team for a defence they don't have, that's just ridiculous. When we are on point attacking wise we will blow the opposition away, just look at the Arsenal game (it annoys me that when we play like that 9/10 it will always be the other team didn't play well or some such nonsense but that's because on the day we didn't allow them to) anyway back to my point and this is were a manager needs a plan b. When we come up against a team like Burnley or even Watford on the opening day of the season, a team that's going to frustrate us and keep their discipline then it's important that we have a reliable defence that can see out points and a keeper who can make 1 or 2 saves a game over the full 90 minutes instead of conceding them.

My main issue with our summer business is selling Sakho with no-one coming in, I refuse to believe that bridges couldn't have been built. A public apology to the club and Klopp, back in the team and Matip/Sakho would have made for a very good CB pairing.

:? Um, the gist of that quote doesn't apply to Liverpool, does it?

Does it explain how you capitulated at 2-0 when you played City and they passed through your midfield with ease?

Are you seeing the point we are making?
