I wouldn’t count the charity shield but Wenger does leave with a decent record. It’s just a shame that the last few years have somewhat tainted his record, although he has added a few more FA Cups.

Agreed. Even as a Spurs fan I have a huge amount of respect for the guy. It's going to be tough for whoever comes in.

Arsene  . Sure, there were some down periods but I shan't forget those highs.

I got into football after Euro 96 and, for me, Arsene IS Arsenal, they were always my favourite team to watch on MOTD up until the Emirates move.

Understand the fan's frustrations over the last few years, hopefully he gets the send off he deserves though.

Arsenal v West Ham this weekend too. Moyes' chance to put his name in the frame.

It's perhaps harsh that deterioration in past years is a common perspective. The fallow years were 2007 (having narrowly lost the Champions League final to Barca in 2006) through 2013. In trophy terms, the club bounced back with the FA Cup wins of 2014, 2015 and 2017.

Regardless, it's hard to imagine any manager coming in at Arsenal and improving upon that record. There could be quite a period of re-building coming up.

Had to find out about this by going to a news website rather than just glancing at the topic title.

Who are the likely candidates? Jardim from Monaco seems like a good shout to me.

I genuinely reckon Brendan Rodgers should get it. He's a prat, but he's quite likeable and his teams tend to play attractive attacking football.

The current top 10 of longest serving managers:

Arsène Wenger Arsenal 28/09/1996
Paul Tisdale Exeter City 26/06/2006
Jim Bentley Morecambe 13/05/2011
Gareth Ainsworth Wycombe Wanderers 24/09/2012
Neal Ardley AFC Wimbledon 10/10/2012
Eddie Howe Bournemouth 12/10/2012
Sean Dyche Burnley 30/10/2012
Keith Hill Rochdale 22/01/2013
Darrell Clarke Bristol Rovers 28/03/2014
Mauricio Pochettino Tottenham Hotspur 27/05/2014

It's crazy really how long Wenger has been there.

He is actually available now that he's no longer with DPMM in Singapore.

I still remember the day I found out Arsene was going to be our new manager. he is the best manager we ever had hands down, and deserves the best send off possible. will be a very interesting summer now.

Arsenal's recruitment might actually be good over the summer now...

It's not ideal though.

New manager comes in (you'd assume) shortly after the season ends. Players all leave for the World Cup. Transfer dealings during the tournament are very rare, so the new manager will have a very short window to sort out who he keeps and bins, who he brings in (with the window closing before the season starts, lest we forget), as well what tactics/philosophy he's going to bring in.

Can someone check with <]:^D if Photek can update the thread title with this news?

Wenger redefined the game in England and his rivalry with Ferguson pushed both teams to new heights. It'll be strange not seeing him at Arsenal at the start of next season and whoever takes over has a big job on his hands. Not because Arsenal are a mess, just that the clubs they are competing with are mostly being run very well right now.

Well, didn't expect to wake up to that. It's going to be strange without the big man but it's the right time in my opinion. I hope the players can pull it together and send him out on a high.

gooseberry fool timing being a world cup year though, as Preezy says you risk doing your business and early and someone getting injured or you end up with a world cup hero who just happened to have the best month of their life.

It's all part of the plan. Bring in a patsy who isn't expected to do that well (i.e. the Moyes), bin him after a year and get a big name.

Who is actually free at the moment, aside from Ancelotti?

Pretty happy about this it's been along time coming , as already said its a world cup year but we can't have everything.

But oddly feel abit sad about him going aswell but it is time to move on.
