5-2, 3-0, 2-0 won’t matter if Roma don’t drop their defensive line and tell their left back to stop charging forward leaving a huge pocket of space for Liverpool to play simple balls into for Salah to pick up. The amount of time and space was staggering. I thought Italian teams were meant to be the masters of the defensive side of the game?

Manchester City are a far superior team to Roma, I have no doubt we will score at least 1, more likly 2 or 3. Unless roma have some mystery defenders to play in the second leg then they are going to concede.

The entire build up to this game was about Salah, his old team, can he deliver etc etc and he ran the game. 2 stunning goals and 2 assists. If Salah plays, we win.

So you think the tie is over then? That's it, you're in the final?

BTW, Robbie Savage's 'commentary' is terrible. It's been a while since I've heard him on a match but last night served as a reminder of how annoying he is. Nothing like having somebody describe what's going and THEN RANDOMLY START SHOUTING FOR NO REASON in the middle of it. Average player, terrible commentator and pundit - strawberry float knows how he keeps getting work.

Of course not, but we have an advantage, we've won the first leg, and with a 3 goal margin. You seem to have forgotten that Liverpool can also score goals and win (or draw) in the second leg

No I haven't - I said I think Liverpool will get through. Just some people think that's the tie done. Photek says "if Salah plaus, we win". Salah is presumably going to play, so that must be the tie done right? He thinks Liverpool will definitely score 1, so he must be in the process of booking accomodation for the final.

All I was saying was to be tentative. If you're going off performances in the quarter final against Man City (if anything can be gauged at all from that, which is debatable), than Roma also came back and won 3-0 to knock Barca out. Liverpool still have to be careful because of those two away goals. Especially in the opening ten minutes. They could make the game more nervous than it needs to be if they start sloppily.

Parksey wrote:Roma need 3 goals without reply to win the tie. So as pemmistic as it sounds, how is it different from being 2-0 up, bar the fact that a 0-2 reversal won't bring a draw but see Liverpool through? They effectively have something akin to a two goal lead because of that away goal. Had Liverpool won 3-0 last night, that would have been better than scoring five and conceding two away goals.

Of course they have a big advantage, but it's not insurmountable. In the space of a few minutes they went from needing 6 goals to needing 3.

I'm not saying they won't go through, just saying that it won't be a once in a lifetime event if they don't. 0-3 to Roma in Rome is hardly an unbelievable occurrence is it? Especially when they did the same sort of thing against Barcelona.

The tie isn't won yet. As I did, people get distracted by the "5" and are thinking it's all over. It isn't, because of those two late goals Liverpool shipped.

Like I said, if Roma get a goal within the first ten minutes, suddenly their task doesn't quite seem as daunting.

Again, I'm not saying Roma will go through or that the odds are against Liverpool, which some of you don't quite seem to grasp.

The comments started after I said “Liverpool have one hell of an advantage”.

I don’t think anybody (Photek may have, but he doesn’t count) has said “Liverpool are through!” or “Roma have zero chance of clawing that back!”.

Liverpool have a big advantage going into the second leg. No they are not guaranteed to get to the final, but they have all the advantages at the moment.

De Rossi has come out and said it’s going to be harder than the Barcelona game. Barcelona were helped in the first leg that Roma conceded two own goals which were unlucky. Roma had their chances also and it definitely wasn’t a 4-1 game. It was much closer.

Last night though it could have been 7-0 to Liverpool and there wouldn’t have been any complaints.

The only thing going for Roma is they beaten both Chelsea and Barca 3-0. But I just don’t see them keeping a cleansheet next week. They definitely capable of scoring 3 past Liverpool.

I was surprised how they lined up and it was like they never watched Liverpool play. They only started to target Lovren in the last 10 minutes of the game. They kept trying to keep the ball on the ground when it was better to go long especially when they had Dzeko to beat the Liverpool press. A few of the goals they conceded came from them trying to play from their half and they were too slow in doing that.

I can only think Parksey is on the wind up here. To say that I know FACTUALLY that liverpool will go to the final when nobody knows the future is ridiculous.

Parksey, do I really have to put "in my opinion" after EVERY POST?

The last two pages are like a perfect microcosm of the inane debates and arguments that happen on this forum.

I'll show you my question before, but this time I'm going to underline a very special word for you. Try and see if you can guess what it is.

Parksey wrote:So you think the tie is over then? That's it, you're in the final?

I was asking if that's what you thought, given how you said you'd win if Salah played, and that you have "no doubt" you'll score 1, "more likely 2 or 3". You sounded like a man who thought Liverpool had made the final.

Seeing as you offered though, I would very much like of you would stick 'in my opinion" after every post. Will make the Xbox threads much more fun, for Nick especially.

Can't help but think Lawro may be just getting a little carried away:

BBC piece about Mane, Firminio and Salah wrote:Put that trio together, and I cannot think of a better front three I have seen in British football.

You think not? Is that YOUR OPINION?

How do you know if I have looked at all the forums? Eh?

For your information I have looked at all 27 forums that exist on the internet. All of them have bickering arguments, except for “Bickering Forum” which is a forum dedicated to the village of High Bickering in Shropshire but instead of talking about High Bickering, they spend their time slagging off the neighbouring village of Lower Shitstirring.

To name one.

People are allowed to get carried away and often do where Liverpool are concerned.

Salah had a great game but was allowed to do so. Young and others have showed how to play against him. Roma got it all wrong tactically and in particular in not targeting Lovren and allowing Salah too much time and space.
I think Liverpool will go through because (as others have already said) they will score and won’t be as poor as Barca in Rome.
Two things go against them. Complacency and the fact that they tire in games. I think they’ll guard against the former and Klopp
Will drill it into them to do so. But 1-0 to Roma with fifteen mins to go would be nerve racking. Their tendency to tire is joined with a tendency to ship goals in the last minutes of a game.
If they do that - they could lose the best chance they’ve had to win this competition for 11 years and cement their season as one of their best for a long time.
I think they’ll go through and I think they’ll score in the first half or early second.

It’ll be intriguing if the 1-0 scenario crops up, though.

Firmino, Salah and Mane have scored more goals than Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo did in a season tbf, so it's not like it's an outrageous opinion.
