His response is not only disgusting it’s also a massive overreaction to a pretty mild bit of goading.
I like the guy. He’s a good commentator and his reaction to this shows he’s truly sorry and ashamed of himself. But so he should be.
It’s a disgusting act and is inexcusable.

But being subject to provocation like that when you're on the motorway is pretty inexcusable as well. He then calls the family to apologise - where is the dad's apology for his behaviour?

I’d also argue that a reason why so many of you are advocating leniency is at least partly because Carragher is likeable and a very good commentator.

I doubt youd preach leniency if it was Phil Neville’s neck on the line.

Is there a longer video available than the one I’ve seen which just involves the bloke shouting 2-1 and then being spat at?

Phil Neville should have lost his punditry job on grounds of incompetence to be fair.

PES Fan wrote:I think it’s ridiculous they got him out on Sky news and they started grilling him. They didn’t do that to Georgie Thompson or Kirsty ‘Gallacher’ when they got done for drink driving. In fact I recall Thompson got a promotion to F1 following that. Gallacher wasn’t even suspended. They not really sending out the right message here with their double standards.

Suspend him for a month or something. Don’t let him cover Old Trafford games if something like 2-1 winds him up. Now he has set himself up for more fans to start winding up.

Those two aren't exactly high-profile in the same way Carragher is but yes, if they kept their jobs then so should Carragher.

I think Carragher should be suspended without pay at least, especially when you consider Andy Gray was fired for EXCESSIVE BANTER (and Gray was much more of a fundamental part of Sky's commentary than Carragher is).

But then pretty much bugger all happened to Georgie Thompson or Kirsty 'totally inebriated on the road and on the air' Gallacher, which I personally would put as the benchmark for dismissal offences. If that's the standard at Sky Sports, Carragher should stay.

Andy Gray was fired for more than that

It wasn’t just being drunk at work (which is suddenly now considered hilarious TV over at ITV), I would put Gallacher being drunk behind the wheel with kids in the car far worse than spitting at someone.

They're both awful but the drink driving is worse.

I don't think carragher should get sacked personally. The incident happened outside of his work, and it's something he will be publicly shamed about for a good while.

The public shaming and suspension etc dished out by sky should be enough

We're all human and will make mistakes.

Punish him of course, but Don't think we need to end people's career over a moment of madness outside of the office.

Drink driving is far, far worse. Did she go to prison? She should have been sacked on the spot and locked up.

Spitting is essentially a form of assault and to be honest I'm of the mind he should be given a lengthy suspension, or at least fined heavily and put on a final warning.
