I'd also like to throw my hat into the ring.

Anyone but glowy is fine by me, though.

Once you bring in the supporters stuff on Page 1 then yeah, go for it.

I can't anymore obviously.

I’d do it but would probably use it to announce Celtic results and I can’t be going spoiling important stuff like that for folk. :slol:

As I said I'd like to do it but Denster got in there first and that's fine by me.

I’m happy with Denny btw, that was not a serious post. He’s generally fairly fair minded and can accept when United have had a gooseberry fool game or Liverpool/City have done well. All round good egg.

There’s no chance that Glowy will be eligible next season. ;)

Locking the OP is utterly ridiculous.

I started the football thread on two separate occasions and changed the topic title 134 and 26 times in those seasons. The only issues I had with changing thread titles is that on a few occasions the title was changed by a mod and because of the way the forum is setup there was no mention of who changed it in the OP. If I changed it then the note on the OP reflected that, if a mod changed it that wasn't in the OP. It happened more often the second time I started the thread so I stopped changing the thread title as much.

I normally changed it to something about transfer news or upcoming fixtures. However, I did also update it with news of someone within the game dying such as the news of Chieck Tiotes untimely death. Having to go chase a mod to put something like that in the thread title seems strawberry floating daft to me.

If there was an established understanding that the title wouldn't be updated to reflect on recent news or if <]:^D had asked for the title not to be updated then criticising him might have some basis.

From what I can see Photek acted no differently to previous thread creators, got called a banana split and then had the thread taken away from him. Doesn't seem right.

I don’t really understand why GG had taken topic title changes away tbh - it was an absolute foregone conclusion that City would win the league either this week or next week and I don’t see the issue with changing the topic title to reflect that achievement.

I don’t especially have an issue with the topic title changing to reflect the FA Cup winners etc either.

If you wanted to avoid a football result that has resulted in the league being won. Then the onus is on you to do so.

On the tv, news, social media it would be a headline. You could have gone in the chat thread and someone could have mentioned it.
If you actually watch MOTD without knowing particular results the onus is on you to avoid any spoilers. Not the people on a forum.

yeah sorry didnt realise i couldnt browse the Off-Topic forum during a matchday in case someone randomly decides to blurt the results out
and yes if im in the chat thread and its mentioned i wouldnt get angry, but we're talking about the topic of the football thread - which i dont go in on matchdays until i want to know the results

So don't use social websites after the game until you know the results! If I miss a Formula 1 race, I avoid Grcade, Twitter and Facebook until I've seen a re-run or the highlights. If I can't watch Game of Thrones as it airs, I avoid everything until I can sit down and watch it. As has been said above, Photek acted in a completely normal way, got called a banana split and had OP privileges taken away. Absolutely ridiculous and sets a precedent which will presumably spoil other threads too!

I did it because it solved a complaint faster than having a debate. There is a discussion in the feedback section about what constitutes spoilers so we can have this discussion again.

I know nothing about football and only what is brought to my attention so apologise for being inconsiderate.

The outcome will be largely the same, my time is limited. If I unlocked the OP now I doubt Photek would even notice.

I wouldn’t be allowed change the title so no point.

Still think you made a snap decision that you didn’t think through.

EDIT: I've been re-instated by someone.

This is in no way a criticism of you GG.

Sports spoilers - particularly football - don’t really operate in the same way that book, TV or film spoilers do IMO. Matches are generally broadcast live, and the vast majority of people watch them live(I dunno about everyone else but I can’t watch recorded football, the temptation to fast forward through the match is too strong) and the results are immediately translated into points on a table for everyone to see. Those who wait to see the evening highlights show generally should avoid social media - and I would absolutely class GR as social media - until they’ve watched said highlight show.

There’s probably a discussion to be had about what should and shouldn’t be posted in the football thread title, but since there are no hard and fast rules on posting sporting results to a thread title AFAIK, I don’t see that a unilateral decision to block Photek from posting updates should’ve really been made without actually having the debate.

EDIT: incidentally, unless my maths are wrong(which is entirely possible), this particular title change didn’t spoil the full result, only that United hadn’t beaten WBA. Is that right?
