I used to love Hodgson until last summer when he led our country to abysmal humiliation. I hope he fails miserably at Palace.

I was just looking at the list of the usual suspects to see who else was available besides Roy, and two of them (Allardyce and Pardew) both have Palace as their last jobs. Kinda tells its own tale there. Given the speed it's been done, they must have actively wanted Hodgson...

Hodgson has been linked to Palace constantly, I've no real idea why apart from Parish's obsession with the 'Palace connection' that the majority of his managers have had. See also Chris Coleman ( )

Zaha must be so excited if this turns out to be the case.

Do have to wonder where the investment vanished off to, and why there was no plan for a backup striker or new goalkeeper (in and amongst other positions of course). The squad has been poor since promotion in the first place and the luck is seemingly running out big time.

Losing to Iceland was humiliating enough. I can take losing to Germany or Italy but that was probably the worst performance in a knockout stage that I seen from us considering who we were playing.

Just seen a stat that it took Big Sam 6 games to win his first game at Palace.

That it did; the Pardew effect (and an AWFUL Benteke pen at Watford) meant that the malaise remained for a long time.

The eventual addition of Luka and Sakho (as well as some left backs) changed the fortunes around greatly. But I don't think it sunk in until that Sunderland defeat how bad things were.

Imagine how hard Football Manager would be if they started included realistically twitchy owners who sacked you after 4 bad results.

On Championship Manager 01/02 I was threatened with the sack if I lost the next pre-season friendly.

Which I then cancelled.

I'm not sure! I read it might have had something to do with Smalling's reliability when it comes to discipline.

On the plus side, Mourinho was partnering Smalling and Lindelof in the pre-season so hopefully they know one another's game by now.

Smalling always looks like a nervous wreck. I do rate Jones above him I always felt he was the better defender of the two he just repeatedly got injured. He needs a full season with very few missed games and I think he'll be one the best defenders in the league.

Yeah I don't think Darmian helped too either.

Only issue I had with Jones and Bailly is that they aren't commanding aerially. That's probably both of their weekness, where as it's Smallings biggest strength. But Smalling is just too slow on the ball.

Rojo is back training though. Hope we don't take Basel lightly tonight.

It's because my memory is so very awesome that I don't give Jones a pass for his performance against Stoke.
