The one caveat is saying "VVD is the world's most expensive defender" lest forget.
It doesn't really mean that much given a) the infalted values players go for now compared to even the past few seasons b) the fact the Neymar transfer set prices askew and c) it was known how much Liverpool we're getting for Coutinho.
Judge VVD and Alderweireld on merit rather than the former's price tag, as him being the most expensive defender ever isnt really indicative of anything with transfers as they are right now.

Yes. Liverpool probably paid 20-25M too much for VVD due to the £140+M raised by selling Couthino.

You mentioned he was better and then told us he’s the worlds most expensive defender for some reason.
I think everybody has gathered that by now. It means nothing. David Luiz was the most expensive at one stage and he wasn’t the best.

Didn't help that they basically got caught tapping him up too.
VVD was very, very good at Southampton but time will tell if he can make the step up at Liverpool. At the moment, Alderweireld is the better player in my opinion but football transfers are never as simple as comparing one player to another, there are always lots of factors involved-stuff that increased VVD's value when Liverpool signed him (e.g. the tapping up, January window inflation, Coutinho money, contract length) aren't necessarily the same as those that would influence Alderweireld's value if he went in the summer.
However, Alderweireld is probably the best CB in the PL, and with Levy involved, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go for the same price as VVD.

Or more! It is disappointing, however he is getting older and if he doesn't want to play then he can go and we should focus on building new talent.
I'm sure most Liverpool fans would agree with me that VVD has been a huge benefit to us since he's arrived, just shouting at his CB partner and keeper is a huge change.

I presume it was mentioned because it highlights 75m for a defender is a highly abnormal figure.

A couple of weeks ago, I'd have said yes, but Wigan are in pretty bad form in League 1. This should be a really good game though. Genuinely looking forward to the game and seeing who gets to beat Saints in the next round.

Yellow at best.
Baffling thing is in the last round Power carried out an even worse tackle on Obiang, which has led to Obiang being out for the season. He wasn't even booked. This is why people get pissed off with officials.

Because a different person did a different thing in a different game? What do you expect? Total consistency is impossible.
