im meant to be going to Italy on Tuesday morning but realised while checking in that my passport is expired :fp:

booked an emergency renewal on Tuesday afternoon and a new flight Thursday morning (nothing on Wed unfortunately)

was just wondering if anyone has experience turning up at the passport office with docs and begging them to let you renew on the day?

was planning to go tomorrow; nothing to lose (apart from on the new flight and appointment) :fp:

I'm not sure if they'll let you do it by just turning up unless there's some kind of genuine emergency, like a family member on their death bed and you need to get abroad or something of that kind of significance. It's possible that you'll get lucky and someone will cancel or not turn up so they can see you, but the downside to that is you'd potentially have to wait there all day just on the off chance that they can see you because they're often booked up solid for the whole day.

I've phoned them up in the evening and got an appointment the next morning. Turned up with documents, came back about four hours later and picked up my new passport.

I'm fairly certain that you'll just get turned away if you haven't got an appointment.

You could try a different office. My manager couldn't get a quick appointment at the local one so went to Belfast instead the next day. Usually they can do it that day though if you've had one before and got paperwork. Mine got destroyed in heavy rain and I put Anungs biometric one through the wash with 5 days between holidays, they quoted a week for replacement and a day for renewal but managed to get ours the day before we flew so you should be fine.

Mind you'll need your picture signed which is probably the most hassle of the whole process.

Not if you've had a passport before, and you're still recognisable from your old photo.

I had to get mine replaced 8 days before a holiday. Couldn't do the same day replacement as I'd lost my old one. They quoted one week but it had arrived in two working days.

Maybe just for replacements and not for renewal. I knew I had to go into work to get my manager to counter sign both of ours. Luckily she had seen Anung 'on Facebook for long enough' to know he's legit.
