Has Dblock been permanently banned?

He's the type of crazy conspiracy theorist who would normally come in here blaming the CIA for 9/11 and other similar drivel.

We should spend a great deal more on the Forces and David Cameron’s Coalition was ‘at best naive’ in its defence strategy: there was solid policy and an overdue admission of recent failings in Gavin Williamson’s speech yesterday.

But you do slightly wonder what our youthful Defence Secretary would be like at bayonet practice.

The fighting man, when about to stab straw-stuffed exercise dummies, is encouraged by non-commissioned officers to growl and shout and show aggression. Yesterday Mr Williamson, asked what should be done about the Putin threat, went the full Frank Spencer. Russia, he said darkly, ‘should go away and shut up’.

You tell ’em, Pike.

Mr Williamson was speaking in Bristol at the Rolls-Royce plant where they make warplane engines and maybe some other military bits and pieces.

Given the warlike uses of Rolls-Royce products, it felt paradoxical to start the mid-morning event with a health and safety announcement from a site foreman but such are the ways of the modern world. Shades of Dr Strangelove’s ‘gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the War Room’.

Slender, loping-legged Mr Williamson, for his part, looks as though he might struggle to decapitate a six-minute boiled egg.

There is a ban list in the feedback area, if you're interested.

I just had a look, actually. He's not on there.

I had a gander at that when i first arrived here, some of what's there is actually pretty bizarre.

smurphy [28/02/13] 1 week
Spider penis mass PM

Brerlappins Little Hat [04/10/10] 1 week
Posting tentacle porn.

It's a shame ONM/SONM never had a thread with this sort of list, or if we did it must have been hidden away in the mod room.

The one that always gets a laugh from me on that list is $ilva $hadow's 1 week ban for... impersonation.

I remember that one.

From memory it was when either Peter Crisp or Alvin Flummux (I always get those two confused) was a mod and $ilva was winding them up by changing his avatar to “impersonate” them.

Our British colleagues should save their propaganda fervour and slogans for their unenlightened domestic audience, where perhaps they will have some effect.

During the dying days of ONM, we had a guy who used someone's real life photo as their avatar.

The individual being impersonated was not at all happy about this, but no matter how much he protested, said protests fell on deaf ears and so he became so exasperated by the situation that the guy even went on to threaten the mods/admins with legal action.

The mods never did ask the impersonator to change the avatar in question, and so that was how it stayed until the place closed.

I don't think we even had the ability to change avatars

Sounds like the plot thickens with this Russian guy who was found dead in his flat. Surely this needs the toughest sanctions possible from us, and severe sanctions from NATO.

There is a pretty good summary of this on the arms control wonk podcast.

One of ONM's members got banned for sending scat porn images in a PM to an 11 year old member.

Yeah, there were some pretty messed up things in the ONM mod room back in the day. Don't know if anyone bothered to screencap any of it, though.

I'm sure one of the team could have just asked the guy to change his avatar though (as i'm sure they would have done had someone used a porno avatar or something racist in nature), was it really that hard to do for the sake of forum harmony? I don't recall anyone actually doing anything to try and smooth things over, instead some of the mods just treated the guy complaining as though he was the problem. It was sad to see him leave over that sorry mess, he was a good member and would have been an asset to GRcade had he stayed and made the leap across.

I remember that, it caused quite a stir at the time, though it still wasn't as controversial as the infamous event known as Geo Day.

At least this one was carried out in a more discreet manner and did not put the wider public at risk.

Russia responding in kind and with interest, expelling 23 British diplomats and actually closing the British Council.

Might want to start working on your nuclear bunkers, guys. :dread:
