Seeing as how this and PUBG are massive cultural phenomena I thought i'd finally give this a try:

For several rounds I got merked within 2 minutes with nothing really to show for it. I can see why people like it, but its just not for me.

That might be fair enough, but I'd encourage you to play a game through to the top 10 to get a first-hand feeling of the tension that the genre can really deliver. If you're literally dying within 2 minutes it means you're jumping in with a lot of other players - jump out late and into a lowly populated area and the game is very different.

I can see why you may feel that way but try with a team it's much much better.
Don't worry about getting killed as you will a lot at start but once you start to get better and win firefights I think you'll find you can do quite well. I'm pretty rubbish at fps games (I prefer to play as a medic or engineer and stay out of firefights if possible) but I've had 5 wins as a team member but I get absolutely destroyed in the solo version.

Happy Holidays!

Get in the holiday spirit with another Battle Royale update, incoming Dec. 23, 11:00am Eastern Time (16:00 GMT) . Throw a party with the Boogie bomb and rocket ride to victory all in the new Limited Time Mode, High Explosives. The High Explosives LTM is available Dec. 28 to Jan. 2.

BOOGIE BOMB

Thrown like a normal grenade, but this explosion is dazzling.
Any players inside the blast radius are forced to dance.
When boogie dancing, you are prevented from building, firing weapons, or using items.
Drops in stacks of 1 with a stack limit of 10
Uncommon
Can be found in treasure chests and supply drops

HIGH EXPLOSIVES
This Limited Time event is available on Dec 28 and ends on Jan 2
Weapons are limited to only … Snowball Launchers, Rocket Launchers and all types of Grenades.
Traps are disabled.
Regular consumables are still available.
There will be no downtime, and no update required. Keep an eye on our official twitter for immediate updates. See you in game!

Nice.

I also won a match of duos tonight with 6 kills... and on my own after my partner died! The final battle had 2 teams of two up against each other, plus me. One team had built a giant tower fortress and were shooting the others from it and killed one of them. I snuck around without being spotted and destroyed the supports so they plummeted to the ground, and I shotgunned one to death as he landed while the other was killed after falling by the surviving member of the other team. So then it was 1v1 and I managed to get them despite their attempts to rocket launcher me.

We killed 2 in grease town early game (the were in roof of building snipe another pair and we snuck up behind from inside.

Then another pair mid game as the circled a settlement in the opposite direction to us

Endgame was us in a house. A small brick structure in one direction and large steel in another.

Steel killed brick while we waited. Then chum sniped one to down on top of steel, then I rocketed base while they recovered. Tower collapsed as chum rushed forward and finished then both low health.

Last guy ran past the half demolished builimg I was rocketing from after my chum and I just shotgguned in the back (we got very lucky he ignored/missed me)

Just one month later, Fortnite Battle Royale has now passed the 40 million players milestone, and last weekend recorded its highest ever peak of more than two million people playing concurrently.

"To put it in context," lead systems designer Eric Williamson told Eurogamer, "some of the folk around the office are saying hey, we could be the biggest Battle Royale game in the western world, which is crazy.

"Some people are saying we could be the biggest and best-played game [full stop] in the western world."

Agreed! The biomes help make it feel so much more "complete" now as a game thanks to the environmental variety around the map. The new POI they have added all add something different and are fun to explore, although I think they have now overbalanced the interesting places on the map to the West. I also wish the city was a little bigger (although I understand that would have balancing issues).

A great thing about this update is that everyone wants to go to the new areas, so you can head back east and get so much loot without competition :lol:

Oh and I am a fan of how much better water looks now!

Been trying this but not sure it's for me. It's hard to get better at when I always seem to either a) drop into a completely unpopulated area and not actually meet anyone till the endgame, at which point I get merked by all the good people or b) drop in with other people and immediately get shotgunned to death by someone who landed before me. I've had a few good games and I'm willing to give it a bit longer, but not sure whether it'll convince me to stay in the long term.
