When I was playing this on the PC I read that setting up with the best draw distance gave an advantage. Maybe that was wrong.

Damn, that was a close one. Playing squads, and the squad I'm in manages to win out to the top ten. Down to seven. One of our members fall. Just four left on the field. One person manages to take all three of us out.
Playing squads does seem to bring out the new players it seems, as I've been put on a few that don't seem to know they're even in a squad and jump in different directions to land at different places to never meet.

It is a very unwelcoming game for new players so I certainly gave squads a try when I tried to play it. In one of the games I was playing, some of my team members were really decent, giving me stuff and reviving me even though I was basically making no worthwhile contribution. I'd like to play this but I joint so late it feels like I only get to play experienced players and this is why I gave up on it. Would be nice if they matched players of similar experience, then I'd give it another shot.

Definitely, Deaths. You can tell that some folk out there have played this (for what seems like) fifteen hours a day for a year.... and they're up against someone like me who is trying to work out what button B does.

I find squads too be much more difficult as a team of people who are organised can destroy you so quickly.

Hah. We should get a game together with just us so we experience that winning feeling. If we can work out what we should be doing.

Success for me is getting in the top ten. It's pretty clear that winning a match solo is never going to happen, and even in squads it seems victory will never come [case in point being that example I posted above - I had a legendary rifle and hardly managed to put a dent into the attacker], but the only time I ever bother with building stuff is the occasional ramp to reach higher positions.
It certainly helps if you can, but you don't need to.

Getting in the top 10 is quite straight forward if you just stay on the edge of the circle.

I'm pretty sure you can choose which platforms to play with, it's probably best to stick with consoles.

This, squads is absolutely brutal on PS4.

If you want a more chill time to learn the ropes you’re much better off jumping on solo or duos and getting experience that way.

The only thing I can think of that still needs fixing is the loading times. From boot up to being in a game still takes too long. Other than that it’s been really interesting to see the game develop. The first few months I just thought it was a straight dog of a game, really didn’t like the visual style and the technical performance was poor. Almost a year later though and it’s become incredibly pretty, so much more visual flare and it runs far better. The little details dotted around the environment are so nice. I think they’ve hit a lovely sweet spot with the latest update, weapon balancing seems to have been largely addressed, the world is just jam packed with things to see now and as I’ve already mentioned the visuals really pop off the screen.

I agree on the matchmaking front though, I don’t actually know if there’s any implemented at the moment but being paired with people more your level would be nice.

If you want a chill time play 50 v 50 and jump halfway into your own part of the map. You'll rarely see an enemy so you can practice building & shooting. Good for doing Battle Pass challenges as well.

This is what I've been doing to get the hang of it. I'm still crap though, shooters have passed me by as I've gotten older.

I thought I'd download this anyway, it's free so it's not like I'm losing out on that side of things and who knows I might quite enjoy it, failing that I'll have a few games and then delete it

Played squads on Switch last night with two of my housemates. It was only my second time playing on Switch after losing a single solo game on release straight away, so I was fighting the controls to begin with, but then we won two games back-to-back where I got the final kill both times.

Feels good B)

I am determined to give this a proper go and try and get into it (doing the 50/50 mode as mentioned above sounds like a great way to get used to the building stuff without the threat of constant death) but the World Cup has completely stolen all of my gaming time, I only picked up my Switch this weekend to add a couple of players to my shortlist on Football Manager

Play in handheld mode while watching the games. That's what I've been doing :toot:

I considered it, but Costa Rica vs Serbia deserves my full attention. Plus I physically can't play a non-Football Manager game if I'm watching football, my brain won't allow it.
