It’s surprisingly entertaining as an eSport because the skill is pretty clear to see on screen, though sometimes when they’re spazzing about with the camera it can be a bit nauseating.

Probably best to skip all the gooseberry fool and just watch the games.

V4.4 CONTENT UPDATE

WHAT’S THAT SMELL!?
Clear out rooms with the new Stink Bomb in Battle Royale or demolish things with the new Constructor in Save the World.

Stink Bomb
This new addition is nothing to sniff at, one whiff and they’ll be sprinting for fresh air.

Image

GENERAL
Bug Fixes

Fixed several issues with Discord integration and improved the information displayed when in a Battle Royale or Save the World game.

BATTLE ROYALE

GENERAL

LIMITED TIME MODE: FINAL FIGHT: TEAMS OF 20

Summary

Survive the countdown! The Storm Circles give players more room to hunt down opponents. The final circle triggers a countdown timer; when the time is up, the team with the most players remaining wins. In this LTM, teams can tie for the Victory Royale!

Mode Details

Final Fight plays similar to standard Battle Royale, but instead of the Storm circles closing all the way, the Storm stops after the 3rd circle.
When the circles have finished closing in, the final countdown timer will begin.
The remaining teams will battle it out until the timer expires.
The team with the most players remaining at the end of the timer wins!
In the event of a tie, the two (or more) teams tied for the lead win the match.

WEAPONS + ITEMS

Stink Bomb added.
Creates a stinky cloud that deals 5 damage every half-second within the cloud.
9-second duration.
Epic rarity.
Can be found from floor loot, chests, and Vending Machines.
Loot in stacks of 3 with a maximum stack of 5.
Increased the reload time of the Rocket Launcher based on rarity.
Rare from 2.3 seconds to 2.8.
Epic from 2.185 seconds to 2.66.
Legendary from 2.07 to 2.52.
The maximum number of unloaded Rocket Ammo that can be held has been changed to 12.

Bug Fixes

Enemy built structures are no longer lit up by the thermal scope.
Cozy Campfires are now lit by the thermal scope.

GAMEPLAY

Bug Fixes

Back Bling no longer appears detached from players at a distance.
Fixed the two intersecting busses on the starting island.

PERFORMANCE
Fixed performance issues on Switch related to frequently called time functions during gameplay (especially when skydiving).
Level streaming optimization to smooth out some hitches during skydiving on Switch.

AUDIO

Bug Fixes

The music for the Fresh emote has been re-added.
Fixed attenuation of Supply Drop opening sound so it doesn't sound like it's right next to players even if it’s opened far away.
The Clinger explosion sound now plays properly if detonated directly next to you on iOS/Switch platforms.

UI
Added the “Net Debug Stats” HUD UI option for Xbox.

Bug Fixes

Fixed a crash that could happen after buying items in the Item Shop.
When using styleable outfits, your last saved version will always appear in the locker preview.

Tried this again yesterday both on PC and Xbox and I still don't see the appeal. The whole 'jumping around constantly with a shotgun like a strawberry floating retard on speed' thing doesn't do it for me. After about 6 games with only 3 kills in total I called it a day.

If it wasn't for the jumpy shotgun bullshit I'd enjoy the game. I like the colourfulness of it all it's a nice change from PUBG's drab look. But alas, jumpy jumpy pew pew.

The handful of games I have played of this really makes me pine for a remastered release of Warhawk that came out on the PS3 at launch.

This. It's a refreshing change in look to PUBG but in pure gameplay terms, PUBG is MILES ahead imo.

I kinda see PUBG as the 'grown ups' battle royale game and This as a kids version.

It amazes me that they haven't made a mode without shotguns as I have a feeling it would be popular as the jumping shotgunning is a common theme among people who don't enjoy the game. I know it's the reason I only ever play the game now as part of a group and I hope the group moves onto Vermintide 2 or Earthfall as they both look much better than this.

The main problem with PUBG is the game runs like gooseberry fool on a One X and the large maps are so large you can spend 20 minutes not seeing anyone and then get sniped out of nowhere.

You should try it on the One, I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

I think you've based this heavily off the looks. The building in Fortnite makes it a lot more challenging than PUBG.

I've been getting in to this recently. It's quite fun when you get paired with a squad who actually stick together and support each other.

Definitely ages away from using building in any meaningful way though.

I've also thought some sort of sequel would be great on the PS4. That was so accessible, even newbies could get some kills.

Yes?

Really enjoying Final Fight, gets pretty intense and having it based on how many teammates you have left at the end makes people more willing to put in some teamwork than in other big team modes. Had some pretty intense matches where the whole squad was making a concerted push forwards into Dusty Divot against other teams.

Also feel like I'm getting a lot better with building and editing, had one match where I felt absolutely savage because I was hunkered down in a closed off fort reviving a squadmate, someone from another team came and hid in the next box over so I edited out the top row of the wall and mowed him down with an LMG 8-)

...the flipside is that some people don't know how to play as a team and do gooseberry fool that's really annoying, especially crowding loot. Had one guy land at the stand near the racetrack with me, two chests there, instead of taking the other one he runs over and grabs all the loot from mine as I open it, then goes and gets the other one before I have chance as well. Another guy insisted on landing on the same house as me in Snobby Shores when there were only three of us landing there, so he could easily have taken one of the others. People don't seem to get that there's more chance of winning if everyone is well-equipped and not just them.

COUNTERPLAY AND PLAY STYLES

By The Fortnite Team

TL;DR - We are going to continue to make changes to evolve the game to give players multiple ways to counter each other in combat, and create more strategies to win the game.

Fortnite is constantly evolving. Our goal with any changes is to keep the game fun and interesting, keeping it feeling fresh and new.

It’s important to support a variety of late game strategies, that don’t boil down to “just build lol”. We strongly believe that the evolution of Fortnite supports a wide range of play styles and counterplay. Currently, the superiority of shotguns, rockets, and uncapped building are such a dominant play style in the final circle that most other strategies are being drowned out.

RECENT & UPCOMING CHANGES
We have made a few changes recently -- and will continue to make more -- to give you options to counter other players in combat, especially in the late game.

We are exploring changes to weapon balance and resource economy, like e.g. resource caps.

MOVING FORWARD
So, where does this leave us?

You should be able to find Victory Royales through multiple strategies. Shotguns should be strong, but other weapons have room to grow. Not every encounter should have to end in a build-off. We want to empower you to showcase your skill, strategy, and tactics in all variety of ways.

We’ll be exploring these changes over the next few weeks - we’re excited to hear your thoughts and encourage you to participate in discussions on our various social channels.
