Us northerners have the same issue with strawberry floating London. At least up here the accommodation is cheaper.

I think my issue is I'm right on the south cost so even London is 2 hours away and 40 odd quid, you pick a where North like Nottingham etc. and the train becomes considerably lo ger and over the £100 mark so just not doable.

If the meet is in Nottingham, do we all have to dress up as Robin Hood?

Of course not, you can come as Maid Marian if you like.

*Midlands

Get the train to Reading and get a lift with Lewis, he offered earlier in the thread

I'm definitely up for Nottingham and I go there every year for the ice hockey so I know the city centre if that helps.

The when is the difficult part. If this ends up being any time soon then I'm already busy all of August. I can't imagine I'm the only person with holiday lined up either.

If it is above Gloucester, then it is the North.

Above the M4 = North

I once met someone who genuinely claimed Manchester to be in the South

No they were from that weird nether-zone between the two, like Carlisle or some other equally made up place

I went to a forum (not GRcade) meet in Aylesbury years ago and was in a car with some northerners. One of them was from Sunderland, I can’t remember where the other guy was from.

They were light heartedly chatting about “southern bastards” and when I piped up with “I’m southern you twats” they said “Nah, Bristol is in the north”. I figured they were joking, but they were dead serious, they thought Bristol was in the north of the country.

To be fair Manchester is about 200 miles south of where I live so I think I have the right to claim Manchester as southern. 8-)

Nottingham would be a 4 and a half hour train ride and £86. Pass.

I believe if you take the actual North/South central line for England then Manchester is just as close to it as Birmingham is.

Always makes me laugh when people from Manchester try to make out like it's some intense northern stronghold at the extreme of the country when it's basically the upper-midlands.

The geographic centre line is definitely a terrible way of separating the north and south culturally and economically though
