50 points needed for tier 10 now and my miles in horizon 2 haven't updated in ages :( whoever decided road trips were a good idea every 4 races in that game needs to be shot. They weren't in the single player for Horizon 3 thankfully but still there for the multiplayer.

Hopefully they've gone back to the online system found in the original (and best) Horizon for this 4th game. Does anyone know if they're present again?

Oh, those road trips were the bane of the game, especially as they're unskippable and take time away from actually completing a city at a time.

The road trip like nature of online is still there, but it's just one mode of online called Team Adventure [or something similar]. And the road trip parts are actual events now instead of just being annoying time wasters between events.

I've never been into racing games really, not since the original Forza, but I thought I'd give the demo a go to check out the graphics.

strawberry float me it was excellent. Everything about it, the slickness of the presentation, the gentleness of the tone, the driving itself, was just perfect.

Massively impressed.

Yeh there are lots of small cool touches in Horizon that really make the product slicker. I really like how they've used the music since the first game, it fades once the race has finished, changes to next song during a load, when you get near a festival site the music becomes bassier, dirtier and muffled like you're right under the speakers.

I also agree the tone of the game being less brash and more sedate is a very good thing.
I think it shows its nature as a British game series well in that we don't generally go in for all that razzmatazz of sports games and even winning races is rather toned down and mellow and I think that's as it should be.

The game knows what it wants to be and does it in a nice calm way while still being huge fun.

They've really done a lot to make it accessible to non-car nerds while having some depth there for those who want it - I think splitting Forza out into Horizon and Motorsport was a brilliant idea.

I've had another go at the demo, scouting out routes for the route creator - only being able to start events from existing locations makes sense even if it is slightly restrictive, hopefully you'll be able to make more than one route per location. I've been planning Goodwood Festival of Speed-style point to point races around the festival site and would like more than one from the first race location.

Didn't they allow more than one created Blueprint or Championship from the same point on Horizon 3? Is so, I expect it'd be the same here for the route creator.

I'm sure it was just the one track configuration, unless there was a way to save/import that I didn't see.

Has anyone elses rewards changed? It looks like they've done away with rewards for games pre Forza 5 and all games are now giving me 300,000 credits instead. Still no Horizon 4 payout though

I'm at 200,000 on Tier 8, only five games listed. I'm so close to getting up to Tier 9. Only need 137 but can only get them from Motorsport 6: Apex.

Apex is a pretty good source of points. I was messing around with that this week. Although it's not tracking properly for me outside of Gamerscore and perfect passes.

I meant with the bucket list blueprint in 3, where you picked an end point and vehicle from pre-set starting points, however I recall you could only have one event per location.

Annoyingly the main page for forza rewards doesn't seem to work for me, but I can go straight to the redeem page.

I think the race blueprint feature from Hot Wheels is probably the closest to what you're talking about achieving in Horizon 4. In that you could change sections of track, but doing so again would wipe your original config. I guess we will know one way or another by this time next week!

And the rewards site has been screwed for a few months now. For some reason the app on Windows 10 and Xbox has more luck at loading pages outside of the redeem page.

The word on the official forums is that theyve updated the payouts to the new tiers. - Effectively dropping you a payout level but keeping you on the same tier number. But apparently theyve fixed the bug that wasnt adding the "free" points for tokens and DLC bought that were added about a year ago(?).

Im not sure.

I was on tier 12 (20214 points) getting tier 11 (425k cr) rewards, but now im still getting 425k cr rewards which is the new tier 12 reward.

So with your drop and my stay the same, maybe the word is correct.

Does any of that make sense?

Rewards have now fully updated thankfully, so I have all 3000 points from Horizon 3. I might go back to Horizon 1 and see if I can do the same with that one.

Reviews

IGN - 9.6

I'll always have a massive soft spot for the down under delights of Forza Horizon 3, but open-world racing has never looked as good as it does in Forza Horizon 4. It combines a beautiful world that's really four hugely distinct maps in one with a constantly rewarding and self-renewing racing experience and I really can't tear myself away from it. Playground Games hasn't just upped the ante once again; it's blown the bloody doors off.

Gamespot - 9

There's such a diverse range of activities stuffed into every corner of Horizon 4, and meaningful changes contribute to smart driving dynamics and a more consistent sense of achievement. Everything you do in Horizon feels valuable, no matter how big or small--from the basic thrills of speeding a fast car down a gorgeous mountain highway to spending time tinkering with your favorite ride to manage seasonal road conditions to just hanging out with friends and strangers online and goofing off in friendly games. The charm of the Horizon series is as palpable as ever, a winning, all-inclusive recipe that celebrates the joy of driving above all else.

Destructoid - 9

Forza Horizon 4 is another fantastically fun Forza Horizon game even if it's tough to pinpoint Playground's grandest ambition. If it was to reinvent the series with seasons, that falls a bit flat and underwhelming. But, if it was to simply remove the constraints and make everything as open and free as possible, then Playground hit its target in the most impressive way. Regardless, Forza Horizon is still the king of open-world arcade racers, and it really doesn't look like that'll change anytime soon.

Gamesradar - 4 out of 5

Forza Horizon 4 isn't as bombastic as its predecessor, but still a challenging and all-encompassing online racer. And the more introverted moments of driving through autumnal or snow-dusted Britain are beautiful, especially as a showcase for Xbox One X.

Windows Central - 5 out of 5

Forza Horizon 4 can be summed up with a single word: Masterpiece.

US Gamer - 4.5 out of 5

You can debate the merits of some of this version's additions, but the same strong core that has pushed Forza Horizon to the top of the driving sim heap remains firmly in place here. It's an incredibly impressive graphical production that puts even its beautiful predecessor to shame, and it's a true pleasure when out on the road. Forza Horizon 4 is one of a handful of showcase games that truly ought to sell you on an Xbox One X and a 4K TV.

I will pick up FH4 at some point, but with so much still to do in FH3 there's little incentive for me to jump straight in with the sequel. 12 months from now I'll have played enough of FH3, (and many of the other racers I own), to make FH4 a worthwhile purchase.

Metacritic 92

Playground Games are without doubt the jewel in the MS crown, no racing games this generation even come close.

Fixed. ;)

Point being, if I'm after pure track racing then I wouldn't plump for FH. PCars 2 & GT Sport is where I'd head.

I'm looking forward to what Playground can do with the Fable series.

Can't wait to play this monday, mates and I are all primed, that said, I hear its a few hours before it's truly online.
