The more I play of this game, the more it reminds me of PGR, mainly the races themselves.

Having such a good time with this game, just what I wanted from a racer. I love the setting so much, the scenery is so good.

Has anyone got the 9th barn yet?

It seems random when the barns become available.

Forza Horizon Rally Expansion Dated and Detailed

Forza Horizon developers Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios have revealed details of their upcoming Rally expansion pack, out December 18 on Xbox Live Marketplace for 1600 Microsoft Points ($20 USD). The add-on, in fact, goes well beyond the typical car pack. This one actually changes the game by adding co-drivers who shout rally calls, new stages, new online events, and yes, five new cars. Let's break them down:

New Stages
Forza Horizon Rally packs new point-to-point rally stages that span the game's fictional Colorado setting. The stages are "full of severe and sudden terrain changes, including steep banks, narrow tree-lined cuts, big bumps, jumps, drops and natural hazards like rocks and trees," says Horizon design director Ralph Fulton. "In addition, we've got more road surfaces than ever before, on-track vegetation with new physics properties, and new particle and sound effects."

New Cars
Yep, no racing game add-on would be complete without new rides, and Horizon Rally includes five -- all of which have close ties to rally racing. There's the '92 Celica pictured above, the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR, the 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi, 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth, and 1982 Lancia 027 Stradale. Season Pass owners also get the 2003 Ford Focus SVT. And they're all upgradeable: "You can take the same rally upgrades that are featured in the cars that are packed in with the expansion pack and apply them to any car in your Forza Horizon garage," Fulton explains. "These upgrades include rally tires for improved grip on loose dirt and gravel, springs and dampers that raise and soften the suspension to maintain stability on the most sever off-road terrain, and rally transmissions that feature shorter gear ratios more suited to the quick accelerating nature of rally racing. I think these cross-game upgrades are a game-changer for Horizon – they allow you to upgrade any car you own into a dirt-eating machine for use in the Rally Expansion Pack stages."

Rally Calls
"It’s important for players to heed the warnings and instructions from their navigator," says Fulton. "Ignore a camber warning, for example, and you might find yourself off track completely." One examples a of rally call: "One hundred, easy right, into medium left. Care bumps." Translation: there's a right-hand corner 100 yards ahead you don't have to slow down much for, but it blends into a medium left turn that gets bumpy.

Online Features
It sounds like everyone should be happy in the online department: "We’ll have a new set of rally-themed Rivals events for players to explore, with new Rivals events being added each month," Fulton explains. "In addition, we’ll have two new rally-centric online playlists, one for rally beginners, and one for veterans who know their way around a rally stage."

Finally, Fulton sums up how the rally experience changes Forza Horizon in one sentence: "Rally driving has this strange and thrilling duality that makes the sport unique – you’re constantly focused on what’s happening right now in the car, while simultaneously being mindful of what’s coming next…even if you can’t see it."

My friend picked the DLC up seeing as he's a big rally game fan. Got to have a go at the new tracks and I thought they were pretty cool and something a little different from the main stuff in the game. Hopefully they release a complete edition of the game sometime next year.

I saw the trailer the other week but it was unclear whether the rally body upgrades applied to just the new cars or more?

Seems like very good DLC from what ive played through so far.

I have tried to enter other cars from my garage into the rallies but can only go with the cars from the DLC so far.

You can only add the Rally Kit to the rally cars included in the DLC. You can however race the cars with the rally kits online in the standard races (I assume you can also use them in the main game too)

It's a better Rally game than dirt. The cars feel heavier to me when playing the rally stages.

I just know if I buy this now then it'll be half the price before I've properly had chance to play it...

...but I do really want it.

You can race any car in the rally events so long as you get them upgraded with the correct rally part (tyres, suspension, etc). Seen some pretty fast times being set with exotics already.

Really? I'll have to look closer when I next play it, I could only seem to pick from 5 cars.

I've just had lovefilm send me this (I also picked up need for speed as it was £20 and farcry 3 as it was £22). Not got round to them yet, but after hating the demo, horizon is rather entertaining in short sharp bursts. It's pretty shoddy at handling, less rewarding and challenging than 4, but quite a bit of fun. There are a gooseberry fool load of flaws, like the awful cut scenes, the whole presentation and setting (yuppie festival) is shocking, the pretty static and dull AI, the soundtrack that wears thin fast.

It is sort of fun, but it's not forza 4, pgr, or paradise, all of which are substantially better games for doing their thing, right!

I'd avoid this Rally pack. The co driver calls 'right' for virtually every single corner :|

Ive been playing some dirt 3 the past couple of nights and the co driver on the head to head stages tells me to go in 5th gear, if I go anywhere over 3rd I simply cannot get through..

I always found the calls in dirt where out of time compared to where you were, sometimes he would call corners you were already in the middle of

I just did one more race online and the co driver forgot to mention a pile of rocks in the middle of the road. Needless to say, I found them. I've also noticed he says not to cut corners that you could, and vice versa :fp:

Ive found I can trust just about all of the rally calls in dirt 3, the head to head are a bit off as they tend to tell you to go faster than you can, but aside from that they are fairly accurate.

I play with no hud at all and Ive been able to win races purely on the instructions, first time on the track.

Must be a problem on your end.

Just completed the last Rally now, and I loved it! The Redrock rally was especially fun.

The new rally upgrades also make the offroad tracks in the main game more fun as well. Only rallyfied one vanilla car so far (for the S and R3 Rally events). Not that the RS200 Evolution is unfamiliar with rallying.. ;)

Just played the demo of this, really like it. Might be worth a purchase.
