Tried the demo. Very impressive. The best Forza since number 4.

That said I've decided not to buy FM7 for two reasons. One, I have too many games on the go including PCars 2 so no room for another racer. Two, UWP still is very unstable my end. Like Apex (which I ended up uninstalling) the demo crashed out a few times.

EDIT: also it rustles my jimmies that there barely seem to be any game journos who can talk about racing games with any degree of enthusiasm or insight; i've listened to several podcasts where they spend 20+ minutes vigorously tugging each other off over Pyre, Destiny 2 or whatever while digging into the mechanics in forensic detail, but when it comes to racing games like pcars or forza the most you get is "they made another one of those i guess. It looks nice though but it isn't twitchbait, indie pixelshit or doesn't have social/gender issues i can get into twitter arguments about to use on slides at a PAX presentation."

I'm getting so annoyed about this that i've become tempted to start a purely racing game podcast in response, however nobody would listen to it.

Driveclub suffered that badly in reviews. Reviewers are terrible with racing games, just watch any of them play them in preview/review videos (often coming off the tracks/gooseberry fool cornering etc). I'd take whatever they said with a pinch of salt.

You should watch Digital Foundry 's attempts at playing racing games. :dread:

Giantbomb are also terrible. Reviewers also put in about 3-5 hours in to games which isn't anywhere near enough.

I don't pay much attention to reviews these days, not that I did much before. I do like to occasionally read DF analysis, but it doesn't have any impact on what version of a game I buy when it comes down it. The fanboy war nonsense that follows DF is always good for a chuckle.

Anyway, FM7 is good, just a pity UWP is awful.

Official PlayStation Magazine used to wheel out their resident racing game expert João Diniz-Sanches. Actually that pun makes it sound like he's in a wheel chair and they store him in a cupboard. But still, he was very good.

Why do you pick on those guys?
They're massive nerds (I think they're great) so it's no wonder they don't know how driving works as it involves going outside and any decent nerd knows that's a recipe for disaster.

Their Dirt 4 video was one of the most rage-inducing ones i've ever seen. There is a small handful of youtubers whose opinions and experience i respect; failrace, emptybox and team vvv mostly.

Basically with a racing game all you need to do is reach turn 3 and you've pretty much experienced the entire game.

What's left after you've turned left, right, accelerated and braked a bit?

Played the PC demo.

The outfits are cute. I like how it loads the race while you do your settings. I played all three races on no assists, in car view, pro difficulty with ai aggression allowed.

Mugello was the only good track in the demo. Nurburg GP is shite, always has been. The arab race 'looks' interesting but its a gooseberry fool track. Trucks are cool and require real thought to win, its like a tactics game, stick the line and as everyone else is the same you have to be just right with the gears and slipping by, only managed 4th place. Won the Nurburg one, the water feels interesting for sure, not impossible but you have to think about it.

The GT2 RS doesnt feel like a very fun car, too powerful and not grippy enough for any real racing.

The performance was good, max settings 60fps no bother. Noticed some graphical glitches on the arab race, track slow to load etc.

It still has my favourite handling model. The feel from grip to loss of grip and the progression in the middle is the best of all the 'sims' Ive played that arent hardcore PC simulations.

Sound is good.

Every time I finished a race it played a video about awards and gooseberry fool and then prompted me to buy one of three versions, only one of which includes all of the content, price hidden of course.

Hopefully PC2 is good - I think that unlocks today - I shant be buying FM7 for a long time.

I think this highlights a broader problem in racing; so many games have the same cars and the same tracks over and over again; while this helps in terms of cross-game familiarity there comes a point for me where even the handful of new tracks and other bells and whistles doesn't shake the feeling that spending £60+ on the same stuff every year gets harder to tolerate, and for me this is the year where that, along with the expanded lootbox gooseberry fool, gets too much.

So, based on what we've seen so far, the outlook is positive for Forza 7 and it's clear that Turn 10 has things firmly locked down across all platforms. The Xbox One X looks to deliver a high-end experience usually limited to cutting edge PCs, while the standard Xbox One hands in excellent results hitting native 1080p and a solid 60fps, with visual quality that holds up very well. Overall, Forza 7 is shaping up to be a highly accomplished release across all formats, and we'll be interested to take a more in-depth look at the game when it launches. But for now, impressions suggest that all platforms get a great experience and we can't wait to see more.

Tried the demo earlier, looks pretty nice. It's funny playing a game like this after playing proper sims for so long, there's so much you can get away with that should have you flying off the track even with minimal assists on.

Here's me trying it out for teh graffix. Using a keyboard :dread: :dread: :dread: and some assists :dread: :dread: :dread:

I fired up DriveClub again not so long back. Smart looking game and yes the weather is top notch, but after PCars 1 & 2, Assetto Corsa and having now played the FM7 demo it's clear DC plays like complete gooseberry fool when compared to said games.
