The first two cars you drive are the E-Ray and the Cadillac V Racing car? Part of it was down to the poor FFB settings, but especially on the V Racing car it just had on odd amount of understeer even when I tried it with some updated settings.

Right at the start of this and the game has used the term "gas" when they mean "acceleration" ... temptation to bail at this point is strong!

I normally play with TCS on the very lowest setting while still on, ABS on and auto shifting, with every other assist off, but it feels weird in this. The “Sport” TCS looks to be preventing any oversteer at all while the off setting is more like what I’d expect from low. The closest game to compare this to is obviously GT7, and and I’ve gone back to that a bit this past week to give me a refresher, but I’m surprised how wholly different the two games feel, even when driving the same cars. That might seem obvious, but outside of the wildly different treatments off-track, I’d expect an accurately modelled Ford Mustang to drive like a Ford Mustang. What I certainly wouldn’t expect is that it oversteers in one and understeers in the other.

I dunno, I’m tired, so not in an ideal state to draw any conclusions, but my first A:B comparison is that one game feels to be a lot more forgiving of tiny mistakes and better at understanding what you were going for, while the other is just rigidly taking your raw inputs and applying it to the simulation.

It feels like this is more for the steering wheel crowd. I will say the handling is extremely good compared to previous Forza Motorsports. But it doesn't feel very optimised for pad players like me. Turning ABS off completely means a real light touch on the brakes to prevent a lock up. It feels a bit overly sensitive. I turned TCC down to mid way, that doesn't feel sensitive enough though. I think it's going to need a bit of tweaking by players who want to play with controller.

I haven't really played any racing games outside of the likes of MK for a long ass time (as in PGR3 was probably the last one!) so I don't have a great frame of reference for where the competition is at, but personally I've been really enjoying the handling on this! Feels like there's a good amount of feedback to the player

Enjoyed what I've been playing of this. Yet to have been on every track, but I loved the ones I've raced on. Laguna Seca is always a fun one.

Oh, and also I've been messing around with the photo mode a lot.

I turned of TCS and it's made a huge improvement. Once I got rid of the Mustang the brakes seem so much better without ABS, so maybe that was car specific. The handling is good, not quite up there with GT7 though in my opinion. Not really a fan of the "game" aspect. I'm not sure if I can be arsed to keep doing practice, and the 'pick a spot' on the grid thing seems to be just to hide some quite shocking AI.

The AI I have found to be particularly poor so far.

EDIT: Really getting into it now on control pad. It's ace. I'm a bit of a stickler for some semblance of realism, and it's absolutely fantastic seeing the difference between a wet race and a soaking wet, storm from hell race. Absolutely incredible handling model.

I'd urge GT7 players to really give this a fair few hours. I'm absolutely shocking at modern racing games, but I've got all assists off, playing on control pad, and I'm constantly getting better and upping the difficulty. I won't compare it with GT7 just yet as its too early. But the learning curve in this is much better I'd say (don't take that as an overall judgement, literally talking about the learning curve alone) , if a little longer than GT7.

Played some more this evening. Pad control continues to be tough but still good. Pretty much no saving a tank slapper but it's precise enough to do some smooth laps. Kyalami is such a great track, I'd forgotten all about it and that it's in ACC, so I'll have to do some races on there now. Getting a perfect 10 on the long right hander with a pad :datass:

Did a wet practice at Barcelona and then the race was like a monsoon. Actually extremely impressive handling model with the difference in grip. Really getting into it now, it's just a shame the events seem extremely long. 3 races per series are more than enough at the beginning, the 5 or 6 race series takes ages!

I've pretty much gotten to grips with the pad controls now. I'm not having much of an issue at all. I make a ton of mistakes but it's always my own fault and usually when I'm pushing far too hard.

Still barely played it, but I think I like the way they’ve gamified the practice laps. I usually use a chase camera, but I’m going to strive to stay cockpit in this. I need a strong visual difference so I don’t play it like Horizon (which I still play a little of each week - for now).

I’ve slowed down trying to get it to work. Just feels like a slog.

I played it for a bit and at the early impression I preferred GT7 so far.

I feel like something is a bit off with the handling or how it drives.

I'll play some more later on.

It sounds like your early experience is close to mine. Give it a fair few hours and try a few different cars. For me, it has a longer learning curve but at some point it seemed to click.

As a game, GT7 seems better as its just more fun and relaxing. I think Forza may possibly have a very slight edge with the handling, but it could just be preference. I've not got to the point where I feel confident in a car yet like I could in GT, but I feel I'm getting close to that point.

The levelling up system in Forza is absolute garbage though. I completely hate that aspect. I hope they massively change it with patches as it just isn't enjoyable.

I don't disagree with much of it really, it definitely feels like the over-hyped marketing has proved a let down with the "built from the ground up" tagline, its a solid racing game, but like GT7 its nothing amazing and I've played better racing games. I hope the levelling system does get an overhaul, even if (like mentioned here already) it's just that all the upgrades are available at level 1, but you need to level up to buy them. I think the multiplayer is what they've focused on for this, to start with at least.

I'm going to put plenty more time into it over the years its supported, but if I want a realistic experience I'll just head back to ACC and subsequently AC2 when/if that comes to console.

I’ve never really played that much acc. Just installed again and set up the moza r5 and it’s crazy good. GT3 cars are quick and handle…

Yeah, really enjoying it. But I’m in a hole with setups and practice now. :D

Re ACC setups, I just stick it on safe or aggressive depending how comfortable I feel with the car and/or track, never really looked into setting cars up myself.

Got back on this earlier on, just doing another builders cup. It feels like there is a really good game in there when they iron some of the issues out, the physics engine is really odd in how it just wants you to get the rear out regardless of car/class you’re racing in, I’ve not tried any of the few Formula cars in there but imagine they will be much the same.

Had my first glitch just now, finished a cup, then decided to tick off a couple of achievements by swapping and engine out and putting a wide body kit on, then the game got stuck on applying the changes (so I quit after about 3 or 4 mins), when I loaded it back up the cup I’d finished was then back to halfway through :fp:
