So I’ve gone back to this. I’ve finally got some decent wheel settings and with decent cars, e.g. GT3 cars and A upwards the game comes alive. The AI is janky, but the game is actually tricky, fun and hard to drive. Really enjoying it finally…

A MESSAGE TO THE MOTORSPORT COMMUNITY – JANUARY 2024

To the Motorsport Community,

We are taking a moment at the start of this year to thank you for your support and feedback since launch, reflect on some of the things we have learned, and share what you can expect from us in the coming months.

In addition to our streams, our update blogs, and the Suggestions and Troubleshooting Hubs, we will commit to publishing quarterly updates like this one to let you know where we stand on items the community is passionate about.

While we have been heads down adding cars, tracks, patches, and other improvements, we want to acknowledge the top three areas of feedback we haven’t addressed directly first – so here’s what we’ve heard from you.

CAR PROGRESSION

We know that the progression system in Forza Motorsport is a divisive topic among our players. We’ve been gathering feedback from a variety of sources, including the Suggestions Hub, socials, forums, long-time players, and surveys to players who may not be as active on our traditional community gathering places.

It is clear from looking at feedback that while many of our players are enjoying the system as is, for many others it isn’t delivering the upgrade experience that they expect from Forza Motorsport. To address this, we are exploring changes to the system. Our goal with these changes is to retain what is working for those that enjoy it, while resolving the issues many of our most dedicated players have with the system.

Addressing this feedback is a top priority for the team going into 2024, however it will take some time to properly evaluate options, make the necessary code changes, and thoroughly test those code changes.

FORZA RACE REGULATIONS

We are aware that Forza Race Regulations are not working as intended in some situations. We have heard about inconsistent or unfair penalties in instances of intentional ramming, being pushed off the track, and spinning cars pushing drivers off the track. We have also heard that high speed collisions sometimes have no penalties while low speed collisions have mild penalties. It’s important that we capture all the data that we can about a race when FRR rulings happen in error, so over the next few months, we will be working with some long-time competitive Motorsport players to gather direct telemetry from them while they’re playing. They will be capturing these instances and feeding data to our team so that we can issue tweaks to make FRR more accurate and reliable. We appreciate your patience as we work on improving the system.

AI

We have seen feedback about our AI’s driving behavior: abruptly braking and slowing down; not accelerating out of exits, braking too hard on mild corners, and following racing lines too strictly. We understand how important it is to have fair and competitive AI in Motorsport and are our top priorities in early 2024 are addressing overly aggressive AI, while also getting a cleaner race start into turn 1 where many of the issues above most severely manifest and impact players.

The 3 areas mentioned above are just a few examples of what we have seen most often and know you care passionately about. We care about these issues too. These and other issues are constantly being worked on, iterated, and given careful consideration. How and what we implement and when is driven by the desire to improve the experience regularly and consistently in a way that does not sacrifice stability and minimizes any downtime.

Thanks,

Andy Beaudoin, Forza Motorsport Game Director
Chris Esaki, Forza Motorsport Creative Director
Trevor Laupmanis, Forza Motorsport Executive Producer

I’ve been enjoying the MP but rammers are a problem. I’m up at S rank and it’s much better, especially at the front (skill up 4850).

The career mode doesn’t excite at all and the AI are shocking. But it’s a long term game. Should be worried if Sony port GT7.

The online in this is excellent, genuinely fun and gripping while also being very strategic due to fuel and dynamic weather.

The things they raise shouldnt be hard to rectify;

Car progresion - make the cost of race tyres be accessable alot earlier - level 3,4 or 5 rather than level 13 (?)
Race regulations - from what i read on reddit other games have better algorithms, they just need to change them.
AI - I dont think its too aggresive or stupid - I think this is OK. Its just that on higher levels its rubber banded / on rails so that position 1 goes so far ahead you cant catch, and if you do catch they just drop off and barely challange. It seems like a copy and paste from horizon race AI.

The main probelm for me is the total lack of single player races and options. There are a load of GT, touring, Formula, Prototype etc car divisions, but no SP race series for them. There needs to be endurance races (day night weather changes etc), Homologated tournaments, and Stock tournaments. - It isnt hard to just add a bunch of these different SP tournaments in. But theres nothing. Why arent the doing it? Its just stupidity on Turn10s part.

Theres also no new car / tournament this week. Horizon is getting 3 new cars each week this month.

I think the game is Ok otherwise, once you figure out that you need a bit of throttle control, its handles pretty well. The Valkarie that came out recently - lots of people took to reddit to slate it, but its obviously a skill issue on thier part becasue its actually a good car to drive in FMS.

Uninstalled for me. The ramming online is bad. The fact I need to set up the wheel by selecting a profile every time i load in still isn’t fixed. The handling (once tweaked and it took me ages for an R5 is good).

The whole single player was poor and boring for me. The AI were terrible and drive like you aren’t there. No space, random braking.

I found the single player to be ok, but I've not played in weeks. That was more down to the format of the races, GT7 did that much better. But GT7 got the "game" bit a tad wrong as I very quickly got tired of XP farming. But that's also an issue in Forza. I don't want to be farming XP to get a car that's capable of winning.

Just go back to GT1, 2, 3 kind of thing where you had to grind a tiny bit, but not too much.

I kind of wish the upgrades and stuff were scrapped. Just give me everything at the start and build a single player around it. I think that's why I dropped out of racing games around Race Driver 2 or 3. That game seemed to have perfect progression even if the handling wasn't up with the best.

They make racing games/sims miles too complicated these days that I can't be arsed after a while.

It’s very odd you can jump into new online multiplayer events with a new car, then have no unlocks. You start lapping and realise you are 5 seconds a lap slower and it’s because you have stock street tyres on and you need to level up the car to unlock race soft/meds.

Find that a couple of times assuming there would be a car I have some unlocks on… nope. I’m dipping into ACC again and low fuel motorsport. It’s a hole I may never get out of.

In racing games where upgrades are a factor, previous games have had by far the best thing to grind..... money. Some of my fondest memories of racing games are still from GT4, where you started off with a rubbish car, you then had to grind money to either max the upgrades, or buy a new car.

How multiplayer races aren't a car running in a certain spec I don't know :fp:

Wish I had the time to actually practice in ACC enough to get to a point where I'd feel confident and competent enough to join something like LFM, must make the game so much better in multiplayer.

See, I'll say this again. Turn 10 called this a Car-PG, indicating that it is truly an RPG-like game. But... the heck is RPG-like about this? The grinding for experience? Resistor sounds more like a racing-RPG with everything it's got in its features list. Admittedly nowhere near a sim racer, but there's no reason a career of Forza Motorsport couldn't have such things as various characters to accept missions from, increasing your reputation with them to get rewards and bonuses in return.

ACC is hard. But whenever I put time in I realise how much better the AI is, how much better the handling is. I also get better when I commit to it. But line off and learning tracks is tricky. Working on getting that LFM license for the first time.. it’s daunting

I know it’s off topic (as there isn’t an official, dedicated AC/ACC thread, of course plenty of ACC talk in the racing thread), but once you have your license for LFM, is that it for good? Or do you need to renew each season? No idea how I’d even go about getting it to be honest!

ACC is hard but so rewarding, which is what a sim should be, it’s by far the closest we have on console, really hope they crack it with AC2 as well as while the various series of cars in ACC are great I do miss the variety of road and race cars, but then AC on console isn’t quite as nice to drive in.

The grinding for EXP is the only RPG element of it really, it’s such an annoying game, I’d forgive it for being a sim lite if it handled well rather than the constant understeer or off throttle oversteer you get on a wheel, if it had a good career mode, but it’s poor at best with poor AI that definitely isn’t rubber banded. It’s tried to be too many things and not done anything well.

LFM license sticks for good. Grinded it last night and hoping for less murders than Forza.

Might look into trying to get an LFM license then, even if I'll barely use it.

A small step in the right direction….. still a way to go before I’d class it as a good racing game/simcade.

It’s deleted and gone again for me. The single player is dull as dishwater and the multiplayer has issues with lobbies and S rankings with rammers, and the penalties are no where near harsh enough. So the rammers remain a problem.
